Commercial Description:
A brown, Belgian-style abbey ale. Caramel, banana, biscuit and fruity-aromas contribute to the balance of this strong, complex beer. A sweet, bready and caramel flavor follows with a silky, creamy finish.

Many bottles brought to the Labor Day gathering by Pailhead and Styles:

Reddish hued with an oily film and not much head, some lacing. The nose detected some oxidition even though this one is not that old. Also found aroma’s of currant, pear, banana, clove and an interest combination of yeast esters (earthy, salty and flowery). The taste is wonderfully fruity with notes of both tart and fleshy fruits. A bit yeasty and caramel character as well. The finish is slick and pepper hints appear. The feel is oily and warming, sticky on the palate. A solid brew with good depth but still did not rock my world. It is more a Strong Ale than Abbey Dubbel IMO.

A- Pours a cola brown hue with a small off white head. Still looks like there is quite a bit of carbonation for the age of this one. S- Smells sweet with hints of dark fruits such as fig and has a citrusey character which is followed by belgian yeastiness. T- Taste is much lighter than expected. Definite hints of citrus from the nose tie into the flavor along with sweet caramel notes that fade away to a long, lingering malt character. Alcohol at the end is more prominent as it warms. M- Medium body with a good amount of carbonation. D- This is another winner from kuhnhenn. I honestly can’t say what this one was like fresh but it seems to have aged very well. Very subtle and balanced. The alcohol is barely present in this one which is surprising considering the 9 percent abv. All in all I think I enjoyed the syrah nine a little better because it added another layer of complexity to this brew but the simplistic elegance of this one really works out in the long run.
