Big thanks to Kevin for Sharing this one!
A-pours a dark reddish color, almost brown with a dense tan colored head.
S-the nose is huge with lots going on. something a little off putting up front, cheesy or musk. acetone is in there as well with dark fruits in the back, plums, cherries and raisins with notes of straight booze in the back.
T-the taste seems a little more put together. notes of chocolate malt faintly up front, lots of dark fruity sweetness, soft cherries, plums. the finish has something a little off, some cheese flavors.
M-smooth and creamy, full bodied and chewy, big with a good carbonation and a solid finish.
D-the nose is a little bit of a mess, the flavors are less so and much luch boozy. big dark fruits but something off-putting in the back.

Damn!
Definitely not a sour. I would classify this as more of a fruit beer.
Aroma is black cherry, raisin, some old ale-esque yeastiness. It’s like a chocolate cherry cordial.
Taste is red fruit, cherry pit, bright black cherry flesh, tannin, barrel, and sugary raisin.
Finish is tannic, sweet, pitty, and very mildly sour.
Awesome!

Sampled at the ’10 MBGWF. Mahogany pour with a pinkish tint, ruby highlights and a loose brown head. The aroma is molasses, caramel and cherries. The flavor reveals more of the aroma along with a little vanilla, maraschino cherries, some spice, and a little caramelized brown sugar on the end. The body is smooth and velvety, full and has soft carbonation.

12 oz bottle as Olde Brune. Pours a dark, nearly opaque brown with just a light tan ring for a head. Aroma has heavy cherry, molasses, and chocolate aromas, very syrupy and sugary. Flavor features lots of cherry combined with molasses and chocolate syrup, heavy raisin, and just a slight tartness. Seemed off at first, but it comes together a lot more after the first few sips.

THanks Kevin for sharing this brew!
A- Body is a crystal clear walnut hue. Pours with no head. A slight off white collar appears and vanishes quickly. No lacing is left behind in the glass.
S- Slight presence of alcohol, over-ripe dark fruit, aged cheese. Overall impression is very funky and slightly bready.
T- Flavor is slightly sour with a hint of chocolate and vinegar. Finish is quite acidic-but not really tart.
M- Medium carbonation and medium weight slightly acidic body.
D- This brew doesn’t seem to meld right on the palate. Its not bad...somewhat drinkable-but it just doesnt blend right.

From notes. First reviewed 9/26/2011. Served on tap at Kuhnhenn in a tulip.
My tulip arrives with a deep crimson brown colored liquid with a frothy pink head. A little bit of lace is left, but the head mostly dissipates before the glass is through.
There are a lot of interesting aromatics with this beer. Sweet brown malt, tart cherries, cranberries, lactic vinegar, some oak, and a general spiciness all contribute. The aroma is much sweeter than sour.
The flavor follows the sweetness of the nose. There is a very strong malt presence. There is a nice spiciness here from the yeast, but its subdued nature lets me know it was not able to completely handle the full malt bill. Tart cherry flavors provides more of a foil to the sweetness rather than a true complement or dominance. Some cranberry and red grape flavors work with a lactic and vinegar flavor that are, again, in the background. A nice amount of oak and vanilla finish the flavor off. Either some age or a more aggressive yeast would do this beer wonders, I think.
This is definitely full bodied for this style, or at least it sits heavier on the tongue than others I have sampled. Kuhnhenn is definitely known for taking a style and imperializing (that is a word now) the hell out of it. The alcohol is slightly noticeable going down my throat, an accomplishment considering how high of an ABV it is. Somewhat lactic and vinegary, but this mouthfeel gets pushed behind the full-bodied sweetness.
Old Brune definitely falls on the sweet side of the spectrum when it comes to Oud Bruins, and it is higher than the normal alcohol range as well. The complexity was there, but I think I would have preferred it to have been toned down just a bit in the alcohol and sweetness department to let some of the other flavors shine through a little bit.

On tap at Blind Tiger with Andy, James, Streets. Dark red pour. Aroma is insanely sweet with an intense, strawberry-cherry tartness that made us think of fruit roll-ups and gushers. Taste was not nearly as tart as expected. Very fruity; dark fruits like plums/prunes. Very very sweet but not sour. Still awesome regardless of taxonomy.

On tap at Kuhnhenn, served in a tulip. Dark brown with ruby tinge, with thin tan/pinkish head. Aroma of sour cherries and yeasty funk. Taste is sweet and quite tart, gets on the back of the tongue. Cherry and a bit of red wine character. Creamy and crisp mouthfeel. Hides the alcohol well...delicious!
