From the February 2013 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a growler this beer poured a black color with a medium sized soapy brown head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was moderate floral and fruity hops with a bit of sour malts and a touch of roastiness. The flavor was semi dry and toasty with notes of wood, faint cocoa and coffee. Medium length dry toasty and woody finish. Medium body. Meh.

Pours black and murky. Some lacing. Aroma of hops and crisp malt. Taste a little bitter, some sweetness. Abrupt finish, medium carbonation and consistency. Good. Tap at brewpub.

At the brewery, dark brown, nearly black pour with an off white head. Sweet nose and dark chocolate flavor. A little minor bitterness. Good stuff!

Aroma is sweet, malty, hints of coffee and vanilla. Appearance is dark brown, creamy darkish brown head. The flavor is lighter than expected, but tastes of sweet malts and a light coffee bitterness. The mouthfeel is super malty, just the way I like it. Overall, it is solid. Reminds me of Edmund Fitzgerald. I would buy it again.

Draft at brewery as part of sampler paddle. Pours black with very little head. Aroma of sweet chocolate. Some lacing. Flavor is more roasty with some coffee and dark chocolate bitterness. Very nice porter.

Very dark brown beer. Crisp palate. Fresh minerally porter. A little sour dark malt but it’s non too heavy. Finishes crisp with more tangy sour dark malt. Light refreshing porter.

On tap at the brewery. Very dark black appearance, a little head. Some lacing on the glass. Aroma of mostly roasted malt and chocolate but also getting a little nut and cream. Taste is roasty and nutty. A little sweet too but not much chocolate in the taste. Mouthfeel is a little thin for my taste. Still a pretty good porter but far from my favorite.

Growler. Pours a clear dark brown with a light tan head. Aromas of brown sugar, roastiness, a little cocoa. Flavor is fairly strong roasty coffee, some cocoa, notes of aniseed. Pretty nice.

[4126-20111113] Tap. Mild popcorn roasted malt aroma hints at a little hops. Clear, dark red-hued black body with a quick foamy off-white head. Roasted grainy malt flavour has a little bitter finish. Medium-full body. Bit of a weak porter, but was (oddly) expecting more roasted chocolate and less bitter grassy malt notes. (7/3/6/3/14) 3.3
