Poured at What The Funk. Hazy ruby brown with small off white head. The aroma is strong sour fruit, some funk. Thin mouth, mango, apple skin, oak, light funk, light sourness, very good.

Tap Barcade, $6=10oz. Murky brown orange, thin off-white to almost nil. Mango and orange pulp up front, some lactic notes and earthy old wood and dirty caramel follow. Flavor still has the fruit, but a good amount earthier than the aroma, overtaking the fruit. Almost getting some minty notes. I remember brighter fruit and more sour notes from the GTMW keg. Just a little leathery brett. Semi-dry with earthy bitterness peaking at a 3, sourness at a 3. Scant carbonation with a med full body. Liked it better at Great Taste.

On draft at the GTMW 2011. Pours a reddish brown with an off white head, lots of lacing. Aroma of fresh mango, mild citrus, earthy funk and dry brett. Some dust, straw, and a sour twinge. Flavor is mildly sour beneath the rush of fresh mango. Sweet hay, earth, mild dryness. Slick mouthfeel, nice to drink. Pretty good sour.

Draft on tap at Great Taste of the Midwest 2011 (Madison, WI). Pours a murky reddish pour, good haze, with a small loose bubbled offwhite head dies to nothing. Aromas are fruity mangos, tropical, sweeter bread, toast, and funky brett, some straw. Initial is nice and fruity, mangos and apples, pears, with touches of cherry, some bread dough, light funkiness, dry brett, touch of dust, straw. A bit sweet, just a light sourness. A bit of a dissappointment. Finish is a touch tart and dry, more bretty with some light sweet malts hanging around. My least favorite of the day, strange fruit and sweet malts stick around. Lighter sourness, funky brett, sweetness. Certainly not bad, but the most underwhelming of the day in the series.

MBGSF 2011. Poured a cloudy reddish brown color with a mostly lasting frothy white head with good lacing. Moderate to heavy sour, yeasty and tropical fruit aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy sour & fruit sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet & sour finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout beer for style.

Pailhead (6404) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - AUG 5, 2011
UPDATED: AUG 6, 2011 On tap: The aroma has lots of mango, cotton candy, and light sour funk. It pours a hazy brownish-orange with a minimal off-white. The flavor starts with a quick dose of caramel and cherry. The finish has lots of sweet and tart mango. Medium bodied with light carbonation. Overall, maybe more fruit beer than Sour Ale...but still tasty.

MiBG Summer Fest 2011. another version of the play in the hay. great stuff. brownish pour with little head. keeps the subtle sweetness, sour funk, cherry and oak, and adds an insanely fresh mango backbone. have never tasted a tropical fruit so well in a beer, and was quite impressed with this
