2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
2011 bottle from Rayl101. Porus a clear light mahogany color with a minimal khaki head that rings the rim of the glass. Minimal carbonation. Aroma is herbal, with lots of mint, mint-chocolate, and something savory. Taste is sweet with a little bit of alcohol bite. It goes down pretty smooth and tastes better than it smells. Iím not really sure what to make of this beer.

Brown sugar and molasses, raisin, booze, and slightly oxidized sugary dough, sporting a medium to full sugary palate and a syrupy finish. Pretty yummy.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks to ryan for this one. Rich purple brown pour with a small head. Nose and flavor bring forth a delightful dark fruit profile with plum, fig, raisin, and some cinnamon/nutmeg spice. Hides the alcohol beautifully. Quite good.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
on tap at HDG. Dark brown in color with a medim sized tan head. A ton of spice in the aroma: ginger, allpice, with light chocolate, and estery/phenolic yeast. Taste is molasses, hints of chocolate and licorice, ginger, allspice, and some light banana and clove. Some spicy hops in the mid palate through the finish. Interesting, but I found it weird and a bit muddled at the time.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass, 2011 winter solstice bottling. Pours lightly cloudy dark red color with a small 1 finger off white head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin film cap. Minimal spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of raisin, prune, caramel, molasses, pepper, anise, clove, allspice, cinnamon, banana, leather, earth, and yeast spiciness. Very nice, interesting, and complex aromas with good balance. Was not sure what to expect when I opened the bottled, didnít know this was a spiced Belgian. Taste of huge tart raisin, prune, molasses, toast, caramel, chocolate, banana, clove, pepper, earth, leather, cinnamon, herbal, and yeast spiciness. Lingering notes of dark fruit, molasses, clove, leather, earth, chocolate, and yeast spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and balance of flavors, with big intensity on the palate; zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a fairly creamy, slick, and lightly syrupy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Belgian Strong dark ale! Very intense with big complexity; and quite smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable sipper.
