BCMike22 (79), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Mar 22, 2008 Poured into snifter glass. Light brown / goldish color. Head died quickly. Sweet scent in nose. Strong flavored, but nice and balanced. Dry finish. Very good brew.
Dickinsonbeer (2480), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jul 2, 2008 Thanks to Hopdog for sharing a 750 of this! Pours a deep dark hazy almost muddled brown with amber highlights and a thin head. Aroma is veyr unique- juniper berry, pine, gine, scotch pine, some sweet funky sweet malts, with some licght citrus and acidic notes. Spicy flavor, phenolic yeast hints, not reallly belgian-esque though, more mint and lavender, I get a reminder of HW Juhlia, but not quite as refined- and this one has tons of sweet sugary malts and brown sugar mlasses- hints of smoke as welll. Harsh and a bit too alcoholic of course- as is typical fo kuhnhenn. egajdzis (2879), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 28, 2008 Poured a murky purple brown color with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of dried fruits, vanilla, caramel, light cocoa, ginger and cardamom. Taste of plums, pears, light citrus, caramel, vanilla, and a dry, oaky / alcoholic finish. Thanks Steve! hopdog (4444), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 27, 2008 750ml bottle. Gusher alert - soaked my bar. June 2007 Vintage. Poured a medium and cloudy amber color with a medium sized off white head. Aromas of dark fruits, spices, and caramel. Tastes of dark fruits (lots of them), spices, brown sugary sweetness, fruity and some earthiness. Some alcohol in the finish. TomDecapolis (2346), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 26, 2008 Thanks to hopdog for opening up this one. Pours a hazy brown with some golden amber notes and a medium bubbly off white head. Aroma of dark fruits, sweet malts, solventy, some spicy Belgian esters, ginger, bready and floral. Flavor of dark fruits, toasted malt, ginger, a bunch of various spices, brown sugar notes, earthy, oak, coats the tongue and biscuity. ChainGangGuy (1457), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jun 14, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, medium brown body with a creamy, light beige head.
Smell: Syrupy dark maltiness with notes of plums, strawberry jam, and a blend of various spices.
Taste: Dark malts with a taste of heavily caramelized sugars. Dark fruits and jam. A bit of aniseed and other various spices. Yeah, it’s a bit boozey, and comes across a touch solventy. Spicy, drying finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Restrained carbonation. Rather sticky mouthfeel, that’s for sure.
Drinkability: I am left somewhat disappointed, shaking my head all the while. It just didn’t quite come together for me. Glad to have tried it though!
