Mr_Stitch (115), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 11, 2008 6.3 oz bottle at Kuhnhenn’s. Pours a dark blood red with the thinest of tan head that disappears quickly and leaves good lacing. Aroma is raspberries, caramel, chocolate, and funk. Taste is much of the same with just a hint of the alcohol lingering in the background. Mouthfeel is very thick, sticky, and unluckily rather oily. Beyond the drawback of having an oily mouthfeel this is a truly amazing beer that should absolutely be enjoyed by all. Beerlando (1007), Orlando, Florida, USA May 10, 2008 Rating #1000, at midnight on my 1-year RB anniversary. 2007 bottle. Pours a dark, cloudy, ruby red color. A foamy, beige colored head settles to a wispy film, leaving some sudsy lace and thick legging to slowly droop back towards the body. The nose is fantastic. Its like a chocolate Caramello bar infused with fresh, candied raspberries and almonds. Flavors, too, are intensely sweet and candy-like. Milk chocolate and caramel exert significant influence, while moderately tart raspberries lend a slightly sour, fruity funk. Evaluated on the whole, the flavor is best described as a fresh raspberry dipped in a bath of chocolate and caramel. The body is nearly full, slick, and viscous, with a touch of a syrupy, warm, tart finish. I’m not particularly fond of fruit beers, eisbocks, or syrupy dessert beers in general, but I can’t help but respect how well this brew is crafted. Magnificent in small quantities. TomDecapolis (2198), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA May 6, 2008 Thanks to hopdog and weeare138 for sharing bottles. Pours a deeper amber with golden notes and little to no head. Aroma of milk chocolate, raspberries, candy corn, alcohol, caramel, dark fruits and some vanilla. Flavor was a lot of the same caramel, chocolate notes, honey, raspberry,(but not as up front as I was expecting) and very much brandy like. fonefan (3500), Ulfborg, Denmark May 6, 2008 Bottle [Vintage 2007] @ Cnudde Tasting.. Clear medium amber red color with a small, fizzy, virtually none lacing, fully diminishing, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, cream - light caramel, spicy, berry - raspberry caramel, light vintage. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet with a average to long duration. Body is medium full to medium, texture is oily - syrupy, carbonation is flat. (290308) hapjydeuce (475), Carlsbad, California, USA Apr 22, 2008 2007 Vintage, thanks to GrbDg for sending this one. Awesome! This little guy packs some serious flavor and a hell of a body. Shared with Katie alongside some Bourbon Barrel Angel’s Share. Velvety pour that produces light brown bubbling and a stained-wood color similar to brandy. I felt that the raspberries contributed most to the aroma, releasing a wonderful nose of dark chocolates, toffee, complex caramel malts...and of course, a dump-truck of raspberries. Chocolates stand out more in the flavor, with the raspberry fading rather quickly with an aftertaste of leather and sweet brown sugar. Body is amazing, so soft and oily, soothing and rounding out the fruity notes. Great stuff, I’m sure it ages damn well.
