Cola colored with a thin swirly head. Sweet and candy like up front, the flows into a sourish raspberry flavor, then mellows into a robust finish. The palate is well balanced and interesting. It moves so nicely over the palate. Clean and smooth. jgb9348 (2495), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA

Deep brown coloured body with almost no head and a very faint light brown head. No bubbles, and nothing else showing that this beer is living - a bit bland in the appearance. Striking aroma of chocolate, caramel, figs, prunes, raisins and of course - raspberries. Full-bodied; Strong acidic and fruity taste up front of cherries and tart raspberries fading fast to chocolate and deep malt. Aftertaste shows a lot of complexity with the pit fruits really rolling through, caramel and toffee finishing up along with the chocolate and bittering spices and nuts. Overall, a complex but perhaps a bit overpowering beer. I enjoyed it, but I’m glad this was only a double-split (187 mL) bottle - too bad it was also $9! I sampled this bottle purchased in the summer of 2005 at Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on the day before the Inauguration of the 44th President of the USA - at home in Washington. grandgenie (252), gatineau, Quebec, Canada

*Drank at le Mondial 07*Amber red murky poor with little or no head. Aromas of creamcheese, raspberries, prunes, figs and meringue. Oily, nice creamy mouthfeel. You can feel the alcohol. Amazing balance, perfect bitterness, sweetness with a slight acid / sour twist. Added flavors of molasses, raspberry jam, oak, cherries and licorice. 2004 Bottle.

Pours a murky brown with some red and also breaking away at the edges to show traces of deep gold. The nose is pure chocolate, yes there was a hint of raspberry but the chocolate won with a knockout. Taste is lovely, there is a nice tartness but sweetness also prominent and that chocolate just makes you swoon, the raspberry is still there but its trying to wade through the chocolate and it struggles at times to be noticed. I really liked this, maybe not quite as much as I was expecting I would, but this was a lovely beer and Loz really liked is as well. Thanks ever so much for this Mike. Ruby, chestnut color, very small, white head. Almond, marzipan, cherry; one big kernelfriut-tight-aroma. The caramel and raspberries blend into a huge alcoholic lollipop of joy. The raspberries gets more dominant in the taste, along with a great bret-woodtartness, found in all the grand bockbeers. A long, lingering finish of alcohol and more berries. Rather onelined, but a wonder none the less and served cold with any winterdessert, this is a winner for the table. nbutler11 (741), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 30, 2008 Acquired via trade with demitriustown from a 2007 bottling. Let me just say that the hunt for this beer created expectations far beyond any beers reach. Pours almost like a syrup. Tastes like every part of a raspberry bush. Gritty and earthy, but the natural sweetness of the raspberries and added elements of cocoa and caramel balance the flavor and make this a unique treat. ajm (917), Los Angeles, California, USA

Thanks, Lt. Perfect aroma because halfway through my share, it changed from deep seedy raspberry and chocolate ganache to potent vanilla with caramel edges. Never saw it coming. For me, the flavor was lacking because the beer smells like dessert but tastes rough, as if the dark chocolate and raspberry compete to mutual detriment. I like the dirty undertow as well, but it could use reigning in. I still feel lucky to have had this. martin21 (155), Quebec city, Quebec, Canada
