jarspag (593), Los Angeles, California, USA Jul 31, 2008 2004 bottle from UGH sampled on 7/30/08. This trade took place over a year ago! Thanks dude, been waiting to crack this at the right time, my birthday. Ridiculous nose on this thing, long, soft, soothing, arrogant..just so potent and mellow at the same time. Nose of heavy caramel, toffee, OAK, choco-raspberries. Palate is super full and velvety. Flavor was still pretty sweet with caramel, oak covered raspberry, port, and sherry like nuances. Finish was still pretty warming. Aromas were a touch over the flavor...can’t help but wonder if the age on this has taken something away. Nonetheless, pretty damn epic beer... nice. inkubus27 (237), Highland, Indiana, USA Jul 30, 2008 Big thanks to miketd for this. 2007 bottle. Pours a light shade of mohagany. The aroma gives off raspberry, vanilla, caramel. But the taste is where this one is at. With a very full mouthfeel, flavors give way to raspberry’s, vanilla, almost an oak flavor and a slight bit of alcohol on the finish. I only wish this came in 750ml bottles because this was amazing and left me wanting A LoT more. Damn! m4rest88 (216), Beverly Hills, California, USA Jul 26, 2008 2007 bottle thanks to bman1113vr via pepsican!! really enjoyed this!!! was very different from what i was used to, but in this case different was definitely great!!!!! BMan1113VR (2755), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Jul 26, 2008 2007 bottle thanks to pepsican. Pours with a light brown head that vanishes quickly. Murky dark red body with strong alcohol legs on the glass. Intoxicating (literally and fig.) aroma of raspberry, chocolate, caramel, more chocolate, jammy-ness, peaches and sherry. Taste is raspberry jam and caramel. Very super-syrupy mouthfeel. Borderline cloyingly sweet. Reminds me like a very done up caramel and chocolate version of DFH Fort. Alcohol is a bit "hot". Very good, but the bottle size is all that one needs of this beer. craftbeerdesign (731), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Jul 25, 2008 2007 bottle - thanks to The Beer Cellar for sharing!!! simply outstanding. Huge caramel aroma with some raspberry as well. Pours a dark red with little to no head. Nice full strong body. Really soft over the palate - the raspberry is most noticeable on the front, while the chocolate caramel dominates the mouth. Smooth finish with a touch of alcohol. Really, this beer is outstanding and I feel lucky to have tried it. Thanks Matt! MrChopin (621), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 25, 2008 2007 bottle, many thanks to Linus Stick! Pours hazy, dark red-amber with touches a very small off-white head. The aroma is initially malt sweetness, but raspberries soon dominate. Other contributions include chocolate, faint similarities to apple cider, and alcohol. The flavor is quite sweet, but it remains refreshing thanks to raspberry sour coming with warmth. There is also caramel and a little chocolate with minor alcohol in the background. Though full bodied and dense, the palate is smooth and clean. So while KRE is not the most complex beer, damn is it tasty. KAME (154), California, USA Jul 25, 2008 Not so bueno. Syrupy, malty, fruity, and overly sweet, but not great on my palate. Undercarbonated reddish brown pour. Aroma of berries and dark malts. Strawberry jam flavors with a strong bock backbone. It is smooth, but the lack of carbonation and heavy mouthfeel just didn’t do it for me. It is a bit cloying like a port, and should be consumed in a similar fashion. brokephibroke (137), Mead, Colorado, USA Jul 22, 2008 Wow - thanks Silphium! Pours hazy deep burnt orange with minimal latte head. Aroma of fresh raspberry and dark chocolate, like a raspberry soufle. Taste of a fine flourless chocolate cake with raspberry coulis - serious it’s that good. The alcohol complements and distributes the flavor evenly through the mouth. This is a fine, rare beer, nearly perfect in concept and execution.
