hellbilly (1502), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Jul 19, 2008 sampled with the phoenix crew. 2007 bottles via psprings and bgburdman9. thanks guys! pours a very rich looking hazy amber with a minimal beige head. smells like raspberry cheesecake with a graham cracker crust.... toffee, cream, malt, tart raspberry, a touch of alcohol, dry and grainy. strangely, the flavor doesn’t offer a lot of fruitiness?... chocolate malt powder, cream, vanilla, muted berry and just a hint of booze... a whole lot like raspberry cheesecake. full body. very rich mouth feel but it gets a bit monotonous... needs more dog. furly (2), belleville, Michigan, USA does not count Jul 16, 2008 i love this beer so much.i go back to kuhnhenn all the time rarely available.good thing all there beer is great. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 15, 2008 7-5-08 bottles thanks to miketd and Crizay
Pour is dark thick reddish brown with a decent beige ivory head. Smell is fresh raspberries up front and then trails off to leave you with a nice welcoming and warms godiva dark chocolate covered raspberry smell. It is so similar to chocolate covered raspberries - I can barely believe it. Finish is such big chocolate and wonderful and is such a nice pleasant surprise to the mouth. A touch of warm, nearly melting, chocolate dipped coating just remains coated on the tongue for quite a while after drinking. No alcohol is present in the flavor, although it is a touch "warm". Not thin, nor syrupy but nice and smooth and really seems like it is melted chocolate. I love this beer! brewandbbq (269), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jul 15, 2008 Vintage 2004
Pours absolutely still, with a mahogany body and crimson hues. Perfectly clear, as I managed to catch the dregs.
Aromatics are pungent, fruity, and earthy.
Loads of Port essense, vanilla, and raspberries. A hint of oak pulls through the boozy character. Tannic and concentrated in nature, with a balsamic nod. The vanilla is really a nice touch.
Intense and reminiscent of Earthmonk and Cuvee de Tomme.
Medium bodied, but chewy and tacky. Slicky from the lack of carbonation and high gravity.
Booze-laden raspberry juice starts the pallet, along with Madiera wine and cherry pits.
A tartness steps forward, and intense red fruits follow. Hints of cranberry, red Zinfindel, and earthy cedar linger.
Finishes with concentrated red fruits, port, bourbony fusels, and a light tartness.
Quite different from what I was expecting.
The brew is very dry, not sweet, and certainly not overwhelmed with Raspberries.
Plenty of intense red fruits, vineosity, and tartness Zinister (1199), Houston, Texas, USA Jul 14, 2008 Huge thanks to hoppymeal for this beer. Pours a very dark reddish brown with a little mocha head. The nose on this is amazing...dark chocolate raspberry truffles just dominates the air...wonderful. Flavor is surprisingly smooth and full...and I’m sipping it like a port. Taste is very much chocolate raspberry truffles along with port, oak, vanilla and caramel. Finish is long and lingering. Being a huge wine aficionado, I just love this beer...fantastic. darn1207 (529), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jul 11, 2008 on tap at hop devil in manhattan. it was happy hour - so we got this half price at the same time as Kuhnhenn Tenacious Casis... which was a lot to take at once. pours a dark reddish brown and a small tan head with no lacing to speak of. smells of raspberry, dark chocolate and a hint of caramel. my initial impression was that it tasted like grape soda. creamy with a medium mouthfeel and a long sweet and tart (somehow) aftertaste. raspberry jam and caramel mixed in. very complex and interesting - just not really my thing. K-6 lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 11, 2008 Bottles from miketd and Crizay. Thanks guys!!
Pours a rich thich, dark maroon color with a short lived beige head. Smell is rich raspberries and chocolate, like a raspberry truffle, and is very smooth and strong smelling. Taste is creamy chocolate covered raspberries, and a syrupy body with smooth and decadent bittersweet caramel and some dark dry chocolate notes. Light bitterness lingers along with the slightly sweet raspberry flavor which is never cloying. The alcohol is hidded well, but it is slightly warming as well. Very soft carbonation, and I can’t say this is a letdown at all, although it is still quite expensive unfortunatley. Looking forward to trying it aged as well. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Jul 8, 2008 Sampled at Bockyhorsey’s Bocky Bash on 7-5-08. Cloudy dark amber pour with a small light head. Sweet caramel malt and red berry aroma. Flavor is berries and caramel with just a touch of chocolate. Creamy on the palate. Very nice.
