Bartzilla (441), San Diego, California, USA Jun 25, 2008 Thanks Naven. This is something I’ve wanted to try for a while, mostly due to all the attention it gets. After dinner treat is right. Very thick, sweet and would probably go well as a syrup in a bowl of vanilla ice cream. Raspberry is there, but I sensed more semi-sweet chocolate. Not really my thing, but I suppose for what it intends to be, it’s gotta be hard to beat. Naka (524), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 23, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Juart. Pours a deep copper red with a slight beige head that forms for a second then is gone. The nose is a deep woody raspberry prune malt covered in dark caramel. Notes of chocolate liquor as well. A thick bitter sweet taste. Tons of dark chocolate and caramel flavor layered with raspberries and alcohol. There is a little flavor of raisins soaked in brandy with definite mahogany characteristics. Very little carbonation, but a thick, rich body to it. This is a truly outstanding beer that drinks like a port more than a fruit beer. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 17, 2008 Bottle courtesy polomagnifico. Wow, I did not think I would be impressed by this small bottle, but it certainly packs a punch! Pours a reddish brown with a thin tan off white head. Chocolate raspberry aroma, like a tort or dessert cake. Just an amazing aroma that keeps you from wanting to drink it. Thick malty berry sweet chocolate taste, just stunningly good. An absolutely wonderful dessert drink with the best aroma I have ever snorted. If anybody ever has an extra bottle to trade, ISO!! Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 13, 2008 Bottle courtesy of santoslhalper. Dark rich velvety raspberries, musky and almost overripe. Light flowery hop character, but mainly ripe cherry syrup and light estery vapors. Chocolate covered cherries with a bit of caramel. Dark amber clear with a hint of ruby. No head. Medium heavy body, almost chewy, with medium carbonation and quite an alcohol warming presence. Starts with overripe raspberry and cherry, light chocolate and alcohol sweetness. Mild tart acidity, quite sweet but not cloying. Finish is quite warming, with a medium bitter bite. Rich sweet and bitter after. Quite a fruit beer. ironchefscott (341), portland, Oregon, USA Jun 10, 2008 well I wanted to like this beer...but it was a sticky beer in mouthfeel and sweetness level....but the finish was kinda like cough syrup but the begining of the flavor was nice and chocolaty and caramelly....... MaltOMeal (642), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Jun 9, 2008 Rating #200. 2007 (little) bottle thanks to Skip from BA site. Pours a copper color with reddish tint. No head. nose is of chocolate, berries and alcohol. Taste is a mix of chocolate and raspberries. Comes across more winelike than beer. Mouthfeel was medium with alcohol warmth at the finish. Very nice dessert sipping brew. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA May 31, 2008 Rating #300...what a journey!!! Bottle acquired via trade with polomagnifico...Thanks again Ryan!!! The aroma is, without doubt, this beers most redeeming quality. Rich Hershey milk chocolate, gooey caramel, and freshly picked raspberries are evident. The aromatics are so intense and enjoyable, I’d happily wear it as cologne!!! Flavor is extremely complex, incorporating all of the above with additional molasses, toffee, and oak. Unfortunately, this one seemed a bit too young. The alcohol was distracting and overwhelmed the brew. Syrupy mouthfeel...as stated in the description, would make a great "after dinner treat". spud1987 (46), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA May 24, 2008 Wow! This is pretty awesome. Aroma is strong of raspberry and chocolate. Flavor is the same with a woody note also. Alcohol at the finish. Pretty amazing. Actually worth the $13 for the bottle.
