4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 6, 2015 Tap @ Kuhnhenn: 2013 vintage. Rich ruby red color with a tawny brown centers; a thick, creamy, fine-bubbled beige head settles into a foamy collar after just a couple moments. Aroma is a chocolate covered raspberry dessert onslaught. Bursting with super-sweet & ever so slightly tart raspberry jam & raspberry compote, with underscores of dense baker’s chocolate, red grape, & a robust boozy presence. Very fresh, inviting, decadent, & dessert-like. Flavor is no different. Huge river of raspberry puree & raspberry preserves sliding across the palate on a board of dark chocolate & booze. Tastes like a raspberry jam filled chocolate cake. Only, dipped in a big vat of booze before being served. It’s heavy & robust, but given that it’s somewhere between 13-16% ABV, a little heat is to be expected. Given the ABV, it’s actually pretty "easy" drinking. Often served in small samples, which is perfect. A lovely beer to pair with dessert. Or an evening full of regrettable decisions. Your call.
2007 vintage: Slightly more tart & a little bit thinner. Less of a chocolate presence. Not as decadent. A little more sherry-esque booze to this one, possibly from mild oxidation? Overall still a great beer but fresher is better.
2014 vintage: Opposite of the ’07 vintage, this one has much more chocolate to it. Makes me think of those Tootsie Pops. The raspberry flavored one, of course. Booze is truncated nicely, yet still provides some warmth so you don’t slam this high gravity eisbock like a fucken idiot. Really nice release this year.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle share at Cotteridge Wines. Big thanks to Colin. Dark red, hazy, no head at all. Aroma is light raspberry, red wine, molasses, oxidation. Body is medium, rich, no real carbonation. Taste is malty, pretty sweet, tart raspberry, background oxidation like an old barley wine. This is definitely a sharing beer - I couldn’t drink half a bottle of this.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
24th Jan 2015: Cotteridge Wine meeting. Cheers Colin for sharing this, the sweetest beer of the day by a country mile. If you like lashings of raspberry jam on your toast this is your beer heaven, however I found it just too syrupy for my delicate palate and my sample was enough for me.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled, sampled at The Cotteridge Convention, many thanks to Theydon_Bois for this one. Reddish brown with off white head. Really sweet and jammy raspberry beer, syrupy, quite smooth. It really is the drinkable version of Raspberry Jam. It’s fine but a little too much for me.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at Cotteridge wine convention; hazy light red/copper pour with a thin bubbly white head, raspberry aroma, taste has ripe fruit, jammy, some cherries, very sweet and sticky but nice, great blended with Armand 4 Lente for some sweet and sour action.
