moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA Nov 24, 2006 Huge thanks to my man on campus--bgburdman! Oh my freakin’ lord--this is special right here. Boozey, caramel and toffee aroma--not much fruit present yet. The appearance is medium brown with almost no head. Palate is thick, full, and creamy. Tons of caramel and toffee flavors here--it tastes like caramel candy. The tart raspberry flavor mixes is to create a lush, rich beer. Fantastic! adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 16, 2006 Updated: Nov 22, 2006300th rating !! 6.3 oz 2004 bottle courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a dark murky amber brown color with an inkling of a white laced head that quikly disappears. Aroma is of rich raspberries, dark rich chocolate-like a raspberry chocolate filled coffee cake. Taste is very much like the aroma-raspberry laced rich choclate cake with hints of dark tangy cherries and caramel. This is like drinking a gourmet raspberry chocolate pastry if that is possible. Alcohol is present in every slow sip and pleasantly clears out the nasal cavity. Unusual concoction here, yet very much enjoyable. Thanks again Harry !! SoLan (1369), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 13, 2006 Courtesy of northerntimber. Hazy dark brown. Small tan head. Nose of rich, chocolate-raspberry candy corn. Flavor adds marshmallows, sweet biscuity malt. Pure luxury. Full, smooth, viscous palate. Worthy of its prominent position. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Nov 11, 2006 Updated: Dec 16, 2006Had this before but had to change my rating.Had on tap at the Ashley’s KRE release party.Very strong chocolate and raspberry flavors.Pours a dark color with a reddish tint.Very smooth chocolate and raspberry flavor.Very full mouthfeel with probably the smoothest finish of any beer I’ve had.WOW RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Nov 9, 2006 6.3oz bottle via trade with Pailhead. Aroma: Raspberry is there, of course, but melds perfectly with the other aromas. A rich chocolate with some caramel notes. Almost smells like a Tootsie-Roll. A bid of sweet breadiness with a noticeable yeastiness. Alcohol was very mellow and reminded me a bit of a great Port I drank once. Appearance: Chestnut brown in color . Light beige head was small and rocky and didn’t last long. Not much lacing. Flavor: The aroma is almost duplicated in the flavor. Raspberry and cherries, chocolate and caramel, bread dough. Alcohol is very smooth and again reminds me of a fine Port. Finish is surprisingly dry. Palate: Medium-full bodied. Medium carbonation. Strong alcohol warming in back of mouth and down throat. Overall: I’ve been looking forward to this one for awhile, and it didn’t disappoint. A very different beer experience from most beers. Almost like an after dinner cordial than a beer. Well crafted and delicious. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Oct 29, 2006 Notes from pre noogfest. thanks to springslicker for the chance to try this beer. A fruity chocolately aroma. A huge raspberry flavor with every sip. A full flavored palate that fills your mouth with many complexe flavors. This was a beer that was alot like a very good wine. kmweaver (2396), Sebastopol, California, USA Oct 24, 2006 2004 bottle, 6.3oz, wax-less, courtesy of HogTownHarry. Huge thanks for this one! Pours a dark, dark reddish amber core; headless. Very little carbonation. Seems like a boozy, raspberry fruit roll-up; complex, aged, alcoholic raspberries. Alcohol is well-hidden in the mouthfeel; overripe raspberries, a toasty leathery quality, raisins, almost a vanilla oakiness; something aged patiently, paradigm-shifting. I’m getting literary. I don’t even know what I’m drinking here: maybe a beautiful, liquified fruit roll-up; maybe a distilled, oak-aged raspberry liquor, picked at the tail-end of the season. Long, port-like finish; caramel and fruit; a challenging beer. Cheers, Harry! BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Oct 24, 2006 Thanks to northerntimber for this brew. Pours a deep garnet and mahagony with a patchy tan head, edgy, hazy and bubbly. Aroma is dark rich chocolate covered cherries, candied, floral perfumey hops, alcohol, caramel malt (cookie), yeast (warm dough). Moderate to heavy acidity that grows, medium bitterness, chocolate sweet malt and yeast, fruity, alcohol burn and sour finish. Medium to full bodied, warm, fizzy, spicy and dry palate. All in all, this did not live up to its hype. 2004 vintage.
