kramer (2407), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 26, 2006 6 oz bottle, 2004 vintage, via walleye. Pours a slightly hazy deep garnet color with a fizzy pink tinged head that quickly disappeared. Deep tart raspberry aroma with chocolate, light alcohol, caramel, and a little port. Very nice natural overripe raspberry flavor with a hearty chocolate malt backdrop. A little sherry or port-like notes on the finish. A little touch of alcohol on the finish as well, but overall amazingly well hidden for a 10% plus beer. Full bodied and almost syrupy mouthfeel were it not for the lively carbonation. Very enjoyable, not the super sweet fruit bomb that I was expecting. I could have gone for a 12 ounce serving of this for sure. scraff (1921), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Apr 24, 2006 04 bottle - Crimson and purple with no head to speak of. Aroma and flavor are absolutely one in the same. Rich milk chocolate raspberry truffle. I got nothing else for you. Medium to full bodied and slick, soft carbonation, sweet finish. Frickin amazing stuff. Thanks for sharing Jacco (dutch70). LePoopie (151), Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, USA Apr 23, 2006 Massive map props to Chuck for a sample! Has a nice deep violet body, with a beige head. Has a very good chocolate/raspberry aroma to it. Has a very good flavor, definite chocolate and caramel to it, and no unpleasant alcohol flavor for something with a higher alcohol content. Good body and the right amount of carbonation. Overall, very, very good. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Apr 17, 2006 2004, 6.3 oz bottle. Pours a reddish purple with a off-white head. Aroma of raspberry cream and chocolate. The flavor found mush of the same with a little caramel also. It was like drinking chocolate covered raspberries. Medium to full body, sweet, and creamy. The ultimate after dinner drink. Thanks to Springslicker for sharing this at the Tennessee Tasting!! tronraner (1906), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Apr 16, 2006 Bottle. Pours a very dark ruby with khaki head. The aroma is sweet chocolate and berries with some molasses and a hint of toast. It smells so good it took me a minute to get it away from my nose to taste it. But the flavor is bittersweet chocolate, subtle raspberry highlights, confectioner’s sugar, with a sweet (but by no means cloying) finish. After several sips, the tartness of the raspberries comes out a little more. This brew is robust, sound, and delicious. sweetgoodness (19), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 16, 2006 Lovely dark brown/ red with just a hint of carbonation. Smelled of plump raspberries, caramel and maple syrup. Flavor was like a slightly tart juciness that washed over my tongue and was almost exactly like the aroma. I’m not a big fan of fruit beers but this one was tasty and very well done. nolankowal (850), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 16, 2006 Updated: Apr 17, 20062004 vintage bottle courtesy of GonZoBeeR, thanks again! A hard pour gives this a quick small tan head over a murky reddish-brown body. Potent aroma of raspberries, caramel, alchohol, and molasses. The flavor also holds a big bite of raspberry followed with some mellow dark chocolate and burnt caramel malt with just a hint of coffee in the finish. Smooth, not a lot of carbonation...juicy over the tounge with a bitter/clean warming finish. A very nice bitter/sweet /savory combonation overall that feels one of the if not THE perfect dessert beer and a great sipper. punkrkr27 (608), Berkley, Michigan, USA Apr 13, 2006 Updated: Jan 28, 2007Absolutely delicious raspberries, molasses, chocolate, and coffee! Beautiful mahogany color. Nice rich mouth feel with just a touch of carbonation to clean the finish. This is simply wonderful.
