Aubrey (2773), Denver, Colorado, USA Apr 11, 2006 Chocolate milk murkiness with a deep amber hue. Mouthfeel started off chewy and soft; finished with a tingle of carbonation. Alcohol wasn’t sharp, but it was warming in time. Flavors were nice but aromas were really nice. Big, wafty vanilla throughout. Lesser notes of milk chocolate, light oak, rum-soaked raisins, sweet earth, tart raspberries, and bold grapefruit. Speaking of which, after I thought of grapefruit, I couldn’t seem to get it out of my mind (not necessarily a bad thing, as it added a nice sour tartness, but it was a tad much). Overall, a very pleasant sipper. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Apr 7, 2006 #1200 - 2004 - 6.3oz bottle via trade with SuIIy - Thanks Mike! - Pours murky brown with a short tan head that faded pretty fast. Aromas of candied sugar, chocolate, caramel malts, and a definite raspberry presence and just a hint of the alcohol as well but overall a great aroma. Flavor is a beautiful blend of chocolate, caramel, and raspberry. Very much like expensive chocolates. Some raisins, prunes and other dark fruits sneak in but are mostly overtaken by the smooth chocolate raspberry blend that coats your mouth in amazing fashion. Not much carbonation. Smooth full body and the most enjoyable 6.3oz bottle I’ve ever had... An amazing sipper.. Delicious way to celebrate #1200 Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark Apr 7, 2006 Updated: Apr 8, 2006Vintage 2004. Small tan head, unclear deep amber body. Very full sweet candied fruity aroma with obvious raspberry notes and a tone of liquorice in the background. Sugary and surupy, like sniffing bon-bons in the making. Very nice and inviting. Flavor is earthly raspberry, dry and biding with a heavy vinous touch and a warming alcohol note. Notes of dark fruits. Very different and not like anything I have tasted before. Like a heavy fruity pie with almonds and a hint of marzipane. Very unique! Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Apr 6, 2006 (2004) Vintage. Thick syrupy pour with no real head and almost no carbonation. Sudsy ring of foam appears after swirling. Fruity aroma with raspberries, prunes, raisins, molasses and a touch of buttery caramel. Color is a very dark crimson brown. Lively in the mouth. Strong alcohol presence. Loads of chocolate covered raspberries in there. More dark fruit and sweet caramel and malts. A pretty sweet brew. Thick on the palate. Warms nicely as it goes down. Big distinct chocolate taste. Finish it sweet and coating. A total after dinner sipper and a great one at that. BIG thanks to eyedrinkale for this hard to find gem. BrockLanders (747), Panama City, Florida, USA Apr 4, 2006 Just got this today...couldn’t wait to get it somewhat chilled. I’m not a veteran of many eisbocks....New Glarus and Kulmbacher are the only ones I’ve had much of. I was anxious to seek the comparison. Bottle, 2004. Poured a translucent--but barely--reddish brown. Well...the aroma rocks. Yes, I love raspberries so the bias is clear. On top of that I really like the choco-malt latching on to that raspberry edge. I agree with the "liqueur" comparison others have stated...boy this is something. If I had a gripe (I really don’t), I’d say the sweetness is more than I care for, but heck I can live with it. Full bodied, nice warming alcohol tinge....very yummy. The choco-cocoa-caramelish notes are present the whole time. Not very carbonated...that’s fine. My biggest complaint is this didn’t pour from a bomber! Must get this again! Thanks Jeff!!! 2004 - Pours dark reddish brown with a fully receding light brown head. Aroma of raspberry jelly, plums, strawberry, and chocolate with a hint of smoke. Taste is sweet and caramelized with fruity overtones of raspberry, plum, and cherries. These fruity notes are blended harmoniously with sweet chocolate and toffee flavors. Mouthfeel is heavy bodied, sticky and syrupy with smooth carbonation. This beer is sublime. Very unique and enjoyable! joet (1699), Fulton, California, USA Mar 31, 2006 Like a liquer. Thick, hefty aromas of cocoas, bits of wood toastiness, berry fruits, some nice tartness and a heavy palate oozing like melted butter over the tongue. Delicious and fun. Surprisingly drinkable, melded (homogenized flavors) and dry for something with so thick, so much apparent sweetness and alcohol.
