The aroma is sweet chocolate and berries with some molasses and a hint of toast. It smells so good it took me a minute to get it away from my nose to taste it. But the flavor is bittersweet chocolate, subtle raspberry highlights, confectioner’s sugar, with a sweet (but by no means cloying) finish. After several sips, the tartness of the raspberries comes out a little more. This brew is robust, sound, and delicious. sweetgoodness (19), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 16, 2006 Lovely dark brown/ red with just a hint of carbonation. Smelled of plump raspberries, caramel and maple syrup. Flavor was like a slightly tart juciness that washed over my tongue and was almost exactly like the aroma. I’m not a big fan of fruit beers but this one was tasty and very well done. nolankowal (850), Columbus, Ohio, USA

A hard pour gives this a quick small tan head over a murky reddish-brown body. Potent aroma of raspberries, caramel, alchohol, and molasses. The flavor also holds a big bite of raspberry followed with some mellow dark chocolate and burnt caramel malt with just a hint of coffee in the finish. Smooth, not a lot of carbonation...juicy over the tounge with a bitter/clean warming finish. A very nice bitter/sweet /savory combonation overall that feels one of the if not THE perfect dessert beer and a great sipper. punkrkr27 (616), Berkley, Michigan, USA

Beautiful mahogany color. Nice rich mouth feel with just a touch of carbonation to clean the finish. This is simply wonderful. Aubrey (2774), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 11, 2006 Chocolate milk murkiness with a deep amber hue. Mouthfeel started off chewy and soft; finished with a tingle of carbonation. Alcohol wasn’t sharp, but it was warming in time. Flavors were nice but aromas were really nice. Big, wafty vanilla throughout. Lesser notes of milk chocolate, light oak, rum-soaked raisins, sweet earth, tart raspberries, and bold grapefruit. Speaking of which, after I thought of grapefruit, I couldn’t seem to get it out of my mind (not necessarily a bad thing, as it added a nice sour tartness, but it was a tad much). Overall, a very pleasant sipper. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA

Aromas of candied sugar, chocolate, caramel malts, and a definite raspberry presence and just a hint of the alcohol as well but overall a great aroma. Flavor is a beautiful blend of chocolate, caramel, and raspberry. Very much like expensive chocolates. Some raisins, prunes and other dark fruits sneak in but are mostly overtaken by the smooth chocolate raspberry blend that coats your mouth in amazing fashion. Not much carbonation. Smooth full body and the most enjoyable 6.3oz bottle I’ve ever had... An amazing sipper.. Delicious way to celebrate #1200 Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark

Very full sweet candied fruity aroma with obvious raspberry notes and a tone of liquorice in the background. Sugary and surupy, like sniffing bon-bons in the making. Very nice and inviting. Flavor is earthly raspberry, dry and biding with a heavy vinous touch and a warming alcohol note. Notes of dark fruits. Very different and not like anything I have tasted before. Like a heavy fruity pie with almonds and a hint of marzipane. Very unique! Dorwart (1812), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 6, 2006 (2004) Vintage. Thick syrupy pour with no real head and almost no carbonation. Sudsy ring of foam appears after swirling. Fruity aroma with raspberries, prunes, raisins, molasses and a touch of buttery caramel. Color is a very dark crimson brown. Lively in the mouth. Strong alcohol presence. Loads of chocolate covered raspberries in there. More dark fruit and sweet caramel and malts. A pretty sweet brew. Thick on the palate. Warms nicely as it goes down. Big distinct chocolate taste. Finish it sweet and coating. A total after dinner sipper and a great one at that. BIG thanks to eyedrinkale for this hard to find gem.
