TearsforBeers (171), Ohio, USA May 1, 2009 cracked open to celebrate finishing up my undergraduate years... thanks Polomagnifico!
Pours out a nice dark, thick, red-tinged amber with no visible carbonation. Aroma is of tart raspberries, caramelized sugar, and malt sweetness. The flavor is very nice, starting with malty chocolate and caramel, moving into the luscious raspberries, rounding back into roasty, chocolate malts, and finishing with lingering raspberries - subtle and great! Mouthfeel is smooth, syrupy without being annoying, and warming. Overall, excellent. Tweety (337), Vancouver, Washington, USA Apr 30, 2009 Big thanks to Joshua for this bottle. The aroma is ridiculously fruity. There’s definitely raspberries in this one. The flavor is all chocolate with a touch of fruitiness to start, finishing out in a really strong, but absolutely delicious raspberry aftertaste. A real treat. sunevdj (1765), Copenhagen OE, Denmark Apr 21, 2009 Bottle traded with toncatcher. Enjoyed at home. Pours a clearish reddish brown with no head. Smells of chocolate and caramel with some berries. (Toms chokoladeskilpadde) Quite sweet with a mellow tartness. Aromas of chocolate, berries and tiny hints of toasted malts. Some residual sugars. Full bodied. Very soft carbonation. Long chocolatey and somewhat tart finish. Tastes very much like chocolates filled with some berry substance. Thanks Dennis! timsilvia32 (445), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Apr 10, 2009 2007. A real dark ruby pour, I don’t see too much sediment. No head to speak of. What an interesting smell almost like port, without the alcohol. Lots of raspberry, coated with chocolate. Flavors are similar, layers of chocolate covered fruits with some candied fruits and malt added in. Minimal hops, small bubbly activity carbonation wise. Full bodied and sticky. Very drinkable, though I don’t think I would want more than just this little bottle at a time. The finish is just a little bit fading sour fruit. This is probably the only drawback on this one. Dessert in a bottle. A must try. tomspalla (8), Orange Beach, Michigan, USA does not count Apr 9, 2009 One of the most incredible beers I have ever had. It’s aroma is chocolate, fudge, and raspberry. The mouthfeel is smooth and not overly chewy. Its flavor lingers and as it warms, it tastes like a tootsie roll. An expensive beer, but worth the money if you’ve never had it. markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Apr 7, 2009 What a small bottle for the big hype. Thanks zuluflyboy for the share. Pours red-yellow with a barely noticeable off-white head. Nose is boozy berry, vanilla, cherry, sugar, and brown sugar. Raspberries of a different color are in the nose. Flavor is vanilla, fresh, hairy raspberries, no extra sweetness, vanilla and pieces of yeast. Flavors are very complex and blended- overall a very balanced beer. I know it would cost more, but how much nicer would it be to have a bigger bottle. Coltrane (108), South Carolina, USA Mar 31, 2009 So the smell is nice, not sure why this is considered a beer though. Beautiful taste of fresh raspberries and little else. Cloyingly sweet and difficult to drink much of.
2007 Vintage. tpd975 (95), Riverview, Florida, USA Mar 29, 2009 A: Not a real site to be honest with you. Pours a reddish brown hue with a very wimpy head.
S: The appearence left me wondering, but at first whiff I knew I had a winner. Holy shit this one is beautiful. Think freshberries drizzled with caramel and hot fudge. I have not had a dessert in quite sometime with an aroma this wonderful.
T: After smelling this one, I had to dive in and give it a sip. WOW!!! I have had eisbock’s before and I was some what luke warm to them. Well this is a totally different. The flavors are some of the most complex I have ever tasted. Think Fresh Ripe Indiana Raspberries, Wonderful Creamy Caramel, and the Best Belgian Chocolate known to man mixed together and put in a bottle. That is what this one is. Soo complex, soo wonderful, soo good. The flavors are so dynamic yet seperate. They do not compete with each other at all.
M: Thick and syrupy with ample carbonation.
D: Very little indication of the ABV. The flavor makes you wish this one came by the bomber.
Overall: This is one had I been after for quite sometime. I was glad to acquire it, and even happier with the first taste. The flavors and aromas are hard to beat. Most brewers out there try to replicate world class brews. There is a reason no one else it putting out something like this one. This beer is world class and can not be duplicated. No doubt about it this is one of the best beers in the world. Kuhnhenn hit a grand slam with this one. GET IT AT ANY COST!!!
