Pours a deep garnet and mahagony with a patchy tan head, edgy, hazy and bubbly. Aroma is dark rich chocolate covered cherries, candied, floral perfumey hops, alcohol, caramel malt (cookie), yeast (warm dough). Moderate to heavy acidity that grows, medium bitterness, chocolate sweet malt and yeast, fruity, alcohol burn and sour finish. Medium to full bodied, warm, fizzy, spicy and dry palate. All in all, this did not live up to its hype. 2004 vintage. TomDecapolis (3222), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA

Pours a deeper amber with golden notes and little to no head. Aroma of milk chocolate, raspberries, candy corn, alcohol, caramel, dark fruits and some vanilla. Flavor was a lot of the same caramel, chocolate notes, honey, raspberry,(but not as up front as I was expecting) and very much brandy like. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA

Lightly carbonated with a full body. Taste is full on chocolate and rasberries. Alcohol is masked extremely well. Freakin amazing beer. Still needs time also. Wow. <Re-rate>. Now that it’s revealed that it’s 10.6%, the rating has to come down.
Had a sample of the first batch the other night and the current (2nd batch) is so much better. hotstuff (3183), Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 24, 2004 Bottle. Thanks to flemdawg for sharing this one at thedm’s and hotstuff’s Fort Wayne tasting. Poured no head with very few fine sized bubbles. Uncarbonated, mostly opaque with a reddish-brown hue. The aroma was sweet and a big raspberry aroma. The flavor was acidic, tart, sour and yes, raspberry tasting. The mouthfeel was sour and this beer had a medium textured body with no lacing. TheBeerGod (3177), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 26, 2005 Bottle - HUGE thanks to Pailhead for this! 2004 Vintage. Pours a near lifeless ruby brown body with meandering tan bubbles on the surface. Very "still" beer. The aroma is quite possibly one of the best I’ve ever smelled. Rich chocolate (I know lots of us use that when describing beer, but I’ve never smelled it so pure as I have here), raspberries, marshmellow creme, hint of s’mores and maybe even chocolate covered strawberries. Absolutely magnificent aroma. Smells like dessert to me! The taste is tart raspberries, chocolate covered strawberries, caramel, light alcohol, raspberry jam, raw sugar, and Black Forest Cake. Lots of maltiness throughout this as well. Very rich! Body is as smooth as a baby’s bottom! Little to no carbonation, light alcohol warmth and minimal stickiness on this beast. It wraps up with more raspberry tartness coming through - chocolate covered raspberries, more chocolate cake notes, light hints of marshmellow creme, light caramel and maybe milk chocolate. Very delicious beer! It’s a shame this is so hard to get. GeneralGao (3081), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 6, 2008 187 ml bottle purchased at Siciliano’s Market in Grand Rapids, MI for $10.69. Eleven bucks for 6.3oz of beer. My love of beer has reached a new level of obsession. 2007 vintage. Served at cellar temperature. Selfishly shared with me, myself, and I. Pretty thick pour; hazy ruby reddish-brown color. Head was one finger high, light tan, and fizzled to a ring in a minute or so. Aroma was of milk chocolate and raspberry liqueur; reminiscent of a raspberry Tootsie Pop. Medium to full bodied and sweet with lots of alcohol warmth that sank slowly into my mucous membranes. I suspect the alcohol lightened the body up somewhat. Smooth, velvety mouth feel with ample carbonation. Distinct raspberry liqueur, toffee, and subdued chocolate flavors came out. Nice sipping beer. I bet some bitter dark chocolate would go very nicely with this. WeeHeavySD (3044), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 10, 2007 itsi bitsy bottle 2004 vintage via trade with demitrioustown, thank you so much. I’ve been saving this for a really long time, and now that I have another one on the way I thought it was time to pop the top. The brew pours a dark murky reddish borwn with a 2 finger dirty tan head. The nose is brandy infused with notes of molasses sugar, and raspberry is there but muted. The taste is extremely sweet with a big punch of raspberry that follows. The taste is certainly unique and startlingly strong for a fruit beer even one has big as 10.6%, feels almost bigger. Wow, taste is not as great as expected but this is a stellar brew. daknole (3032), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 21, 2008 Bottle 2007. Reddish brown pour. Aromas of wood, caramel, port, honey, vanilla and some chocolate raspberries. Flavor is good, but really not what I expected. Initial hit of chocolate, raspberry, caramel, vanilla and thick mouthfeel is offset by too much alcohol. I was unimpressed with the finish to be honest. But I did like the beer.
