3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 auerbrau (2953) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - JAN 11, 201312oz Bottle. Thanks Sean! Sage bomb aroma. Herbal and paired with tangerine skin. Relatively clean bright pale malt start, with some pink pepper and floral flashes. Nice carbonation brings in honey, lavender and lots of the sage, but the sage manages to be much more restrained in the flavor component as compared to the aroma. Pleasingly dry. Generally I really don’t get into the super floral Saisons, but this one is creeping into Southampton Cuvee de Fleurs territory by staying balanced, restrained, and rich.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BeerandBlues2 (7418) - Hanover, Maryland, USA - APR 28, 2013
Bottle received via trade with FlandersNed. Pours lightly hazy dark orange to copper with a medium, fizzy off-white head, medium retention with spare lacing. Aroma is Belgian yeast spices of nutmeg and black pepper, biscuit and straw malt, earthy hops and barnyard notes. Flavor is moderate spices, supporting malt backbone, fruity esters of pears, light hops and bitterness and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 superspak (1480) - Michigan, USA - APR 18, 2013
12 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass, bottled on 11/21/2012. Pours hazy golden amber color with a nice 2-3 finger foamy white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with plenty of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big pear, apple, grape, clove, pepper, sage, orange zest, grass, floral, light funk, and earthy yeast spiciness. Damn nice aromas with great balance of spicy/earthy yeast esters with fruitiness and spicing; with good complexity. Taste of pear, apple, grape, orange zest, pepper, clove, sage, grass, floral, light funk, and earthy yeast spiciness. Lingering notes of light fruits, pepper, clove, sage, grass, floral, and earthy spiciness on the finish for a bit. Very nice balance and complexity of fruity/spicy esters with moderate herbal spicing notes; and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Very high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, prickly, and crisp mouthfeel that is very nice. Finish is moderately dry due to carbonation, but still flavorful. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice spiced saison. All around well balanced fruity/spicy esters with herbal spices; and very smooth and crisp to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 solidfunk (1790) - Ontario, CANADA - MAR 16, 2013
Ok saison. Cider aroma with some floral hops. Pours cloudy light orange. Some lacing and some lasting head. Touch of booze. Finishes a little sweet and a little sour. Bottle from brewpub.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. Poured a deep golden color with a thin quickly dissipating head. Big citrus/lemon nose. The flavor shows the big citrusy character, soft bready malts, slight vegetal notes. A nice citrusy saison. A bit harsh on the finish.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 DrSilverworm (2726) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 19, 2013
12oz bottle, thanks to umich03jm. Bottled on 11/21/12. Hazy darker golden color. Good thin white head that retains well. Decent lace. Soft, kind of crisp carbonation, more dry texture. Bigger body. Yeast, nice lemony citrus flavor. Hint of banana. Sweet taste, kind of zesty. Just a tiny bit of sourness. Light bit of alcohol noticeable in the finish. An alright saison... Unnecessarily high ABV doesn’t seem to work here, but it’s still a tasty and reasonably easy drinking experience
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 mcberko (4056) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 27, 2013
12 oz. bottle, pours a very murky, completely opaque semi-dark orange with a small off-white head. Aroma is very spicy and flora, with various spices I can’t really discern--maybe cardamom and lavender?--, Belgian yeast, and pepper. Flavour is more traditionally Belgian-esque, with not much of the aforementioned spices showing up, with loads of Belgian yeast, dough, a little pepper and some gentle floral notes. The lavender and whatever other spices there are become more apparent at the end of the palate and the more you drink. Solid saison-style, but nothing overly intriguing.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 b3shine (2249) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 12, 2013
Bottle to tulip (thanks mikem409). Looks good; a hazy burnt-orange with off-white lacing. Smells semi-sweet and doughy with Belgian yeast notes. Tastes like it smells with a good mouthfeel. A good example of the style.

Bottle from Winter Solstice. Pours a cloudy pale orange color with a small head. Aroma is very Belgiany, bubblegum, yeast, light fruit, flowers. Taste is the same. I like this better than most saisons but I’m just still not a fan of the style.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 paintedmaple (211) - Fenton, Michigan, USA - DEC 26, 2012
I didn’t know the style before I ordered this and guessed that it was a Belgian Strong Ale with lots of funkiness and hot with alcohol (not in a bad way). I think this would rightly be called an Imperial Saison, but whatever you call it I would definitely want more!
