Bottle shared by iowaherkeye. Burns 2007 vintage. Poured an opaque black color with a light brown head. Aroma was chocolatey and vinous with distinct alcohol. Almost like a fat cabernet sauvignon with lots of tannins and some dark chocolate. The assertive carbonation and strong alcohol made for quite an initial burn on the tongue. They also combined to lighten up what I can only assume was a much thicker body underneath. The alcohol flavor overpowered the malt, but I also tasted some raisin, potato, and a little chocolate. I preferred the Road Rash Impy over this one.

Pours very black with a trace of a dark brown head. Burnt whiskey aroma, some chocolate. Flavor include dark chocolate, smoked almonds, and a bit of soy sauce. I donít think they made any effort to hide the 18%, but maybe some time could mellow it out a tad. Overall it didnít take much away from the flavors. Iíd like to have a full bottle and at least an hour with this one a year down the road. Thanks for sharing joey.

Thanks for sharing, iowaherkeye. The body was black with a light brown and orange colored head. The aroma was strong coffee with some booze and whiskey. There were also some vineous and oaky notes. The taste was coffee with tobacco and a little bit of ashtray. This was decently carbonated with a boozy finish. Fairly light overall, considering the abv.

Bottle... Pours pitch black with a mid-sized, creamy, well-tanned head. Acrid, ashy, charcoal aroma with very light acidity. Full-bodied and abrasive with ticklish carbonation. Sweet, acidic and bitter... great balance when analyzed separately. Dark, semi-sweet chocolate, lemon peel tanginess and alcohol bitterness. Very rough around the edges as none of these essences really meld together. Bitter, tart, astringent finish. A touch of acetaldehyde in both the aroma and flavor, but this one should hold up well and mellow out with time. Until then, itís still a nice experience.

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2008 12oz bottle, courtesy of artusory. Thanks, Ryan! Pours a dark, murky brownish-black color; medium tan head with medium-bubbled lacing. Very boozy, roasted and burnt malts in the aroma; lots of smokiness / charred character. Full mouthfeel: warming alcohol, roasted and charred malts, and dark chocolate upfront; very boozy; very charred character with not a lot of depth, really; very disappointing for the amount of alcohol. Lengthy, dark chocolate and charred malts in the finish; some oiliness and nuts.

12oz bottle. Aroma is sour with notes of alcohol, port, dark chocolate, and roasted malts. Very dark burgundy black hue with a small tan head that mostly diminished and left no lace. Flavor is sweet and smokey with an alcohol burn. A sour roasty flavor. Palate is full bodied and oily flat. Alcohol is apparent in every part of this beer. However, at 18% Iím not really complaining. Itís worth a try but Iíd rather they concentrate on the brew and not the ABV next time.

Courtesy hopscotch. Thanks for sharing Eric! Pours a dark, murky brown/black, with a medium, foamy, light brown head. Smells of some dark, syrupy malts, really light chocolate cream, and a curious little mettalic note to it. The flavor caught me off gaurd a bit as it had a noticeable acidity and tartness to it. Carbonation seemed quite abundant as well. As it warmed a little the roastiness and light chocolate characters seemed to show up and the tartness died down some. Very unusual beer. The alcohol was very hot most of the way through. Even some traces of dark fruits and molasses were noticeable as well. Alot going on in this beer. At first, I wasnt huge on it, but it grew on me as it warmed.

12 oz 2007 Bottle shared by Odeed; Black with brown edges and a big tan head; nose is chocolate, with light smokiness; flavor of hot alcohol, light soy sauce note, and alcohol for the finish; body is thin, very mediocre impy and I slowly drank 9 of the 12 ounces hoping it might improve!

(bottle from miketd.THANK YOU SIR)boy this baby is black.even held up to the light i get nothing but abyss.the head is big and light brown in color.as the head sits it leaves thick lacing on the glass.the aroma is a mix of soy sauce, liquid smoke, alcohol, and a tiny bit of cardboard.almost like its oxidized?although i really doubt it.the flavor boats what the aroma does, along with the following.seltzer water, beef jerky, prunes, hairspray, and sugar.honestly to me this is just a big hot mess.i also dont see how aging it would help because i think time would just bring more of the cardboard flavor out.
