MeadMe (1284) - Riverview, Florida, USA - JUN 2, 2011
Pours a very very deep ruby red, like a fine glass of wine. Lightly vineous in the nose, winey, rich, and earthy. Not sure what South African Pinotage denotes but this is most certainly wine like. Tannic, and earthy, lightly tart and earthy. Subtle wood notes with a nice red wine like finish. The honey sweetness is understated but nice. This like like a nice red wine with a dash of honey. More like wine than mead but wow is it different. I know I am a sucker for mead but damn do I like this one. Big rich and refined. It’s the wino’s mead.

The aroma is very sweet, honey, fruity. The appearance is a hazy orange brown. The flavor is weak and watery, sweet, honey, tea. The finish is watery again, light hop bittering. Medium in body. Odd.

Tap at Rattle for the Kuhnhenn takeover. Pours hazy gold, very weird aroma, dusty with some malt and apple. Light apple tartness. Very strange.

Draft. Pours unclear golden amber with a white head. Sweet honey aroma with some tropical fruity notes. The flavor has a sweet homey base, with fruity notes, of grapes, citrus, honeydew, and tropical fruits. Pretty good.

Draft. Light yellow color. Smells of sour granny smith apples and tartness. Tastes like a geuze ir sour more then a mead. Really good and drinkable

Ruby red color, dark. Very nice aroma of red grape wort, some wild strawberries too (smultron in Swedish; Bergman...) that reminds me of Strawberry Grape (Uva Americana in Italian, also Vitis Labrusca or Foxy Grape...), a very aromatic grape. Medium sweet, the strawberry flavor is still present; light acidity too, and a very light spicy touch; in the final there is less sweetness and some more alcohol. There is not much of a Mead here, but it’s a pleasant drink.
