4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 superspak (1480) - Michigan, USA - MAY 19, 2013
12 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass, 2012 winter Solstice bottling. Pours hazy deep ruby brown color with a small foamy off white head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin lace that lingers. Slight spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big raspberry, cherry, cranberry, raisin, orange peel, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, spice cake, brown sugar, and licorice. Fantastic aromas with great balance and complexity of fruit notes with malt and moderate spices. Taste of raspberry, raisin, cherry, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange peel, spice cake, brown sugar, clove, and licorice. Lingering notes of dark fruits, brown sugar, spice cake, cinnamon, nutmeg, and licorice on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of fruit flavors with big malt sweetness and moderate spices; no cloying sweetness after the finish surprisingly. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a slick and syrupy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent and unique winter warmer style. Big robustness and nice balance of fruity, malt, and spice flavors; and quite smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this bottle.
The beer pours a reddish-brown color with an off-white head. The aroma is very heavy on the cherries. The flavor is similar with a few additions. There is still a good bit of cherry character, but I also get some nice maple, oak and vanilla notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dunt (215) - Illinois, USA - JAN 5, 2013
Bottle received from Ken, thanks for picking me up bottles man! Pours a completely opaque/murky reddish brown in color with very little head on the pour. Nose is pretty medicinal, smells a lot like berry, cherry cough syrup in particular. Flavor is pretty one dimensional berry as well. It is reminiscent of a fruit cake, there is some bready/doughiness to it. Mouthfeel is light and a little syrupy, not much in terms of carbonation, a moderate finish, and only slightly boozy. Not bad, not great, decent middle of the road beer. Happy I got to try it.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 b3shine (2253) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 3, 2013
Bottle to snifter (shared with the wife; thanks mikem409). Looks good; an almost completely opaque reddish-brown with thin off-white lacing. Smells of malt and fruitcake. Tastes like it smells with a nice, clean finish. Drinks easier than 9% too. My wife and I both enjoyed this one (and I don’t even like fruitcake).
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 umich03jm (914) - Allen Park, Michigan, USA - JAN 3, 2013
UPDATED: MAR 11, 2013 Bottle from Winter Soltice. Pours a very murky dark ruby color with no head. Aroma is a mix of cherry cough syrup, caramelized sugar, and bread. Taste is big on cherry cough syrup. Sugary sweet and a slightly boozy finish. Medium body, somewhat sticky mouthfeel. Not bad but not exactly good either.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 crossovert (4590) - Wisconsin, USA - DEC 29, 2012
A bizarre tasting brew that does indeed bring to mind fruitcake. Not a huge fan of it.
