Kuhnhenn Wildflower Sack Mead is a still mead and pours a wonderful golden yellow color. The aroma is an amazing blend of sweet honey, walnut oil (maybe a hint of sunflower oil as well) essence, and a whisp of alcohol. This mead is ultra sweet, but isn’t cloying. It really pushes that boundary without stepping over it. Such a wonderful, assertive real honey flavor. Intense! There can’t really be 18% alcohol in this as it is completely and utterly undetectable in the flavor, but according to the label there is! Unbelievable and very dangerous (in an extremely good way)! The alcohol provides a warming effect later on... The mouthfeel and palate is also great on this mead. It has a medium-full body and is delicately syrupy yet soft and smooth on the palate. Awesome.
6.3 oz (187 ml) bottle. This one has become a permanent addition to my Wants list!
kkearn (599), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 23, 2007 2006 bottle; 187 ml. Pours orange golden with absolutely no carbonation. Sweet honey aroma, with some spice and brown sugar. Fresh honey flavor with notes of maple syrup, brown sugar, and orange. Alcohol is very well-hidden. Body is fairly thick, but not as syrupy as many meads I’ve sampled. Very well-crafted and enjoyable; one of my favorite meads. CaptainCougar (4601), Rockville, Maryland, USA Aug 13, 2007 2006 bottle: Pours a still, viscous transparent dark golden bronze, with nice legs. Rich, complex sweet floral molten honey and brown sugar aroma. Body starts very full and sticky sweet with lots of fresh, sweet honey along with some molasses and maple syrup. Finishes just as sweet which hides the alcohol quite well, but can be a little cloying. A fine dessert mead! Tmoney99 (3429), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA May 25, 2007 Sample from Peanut with Craig at Dilly Deli. Poured clear golden color with great legs. Heavy floral, lemon grass and alcohol aroma that lasted even after the liquid was gone. Full body with a smooth thick texture. Heavy balanced spicy flavor with a heavy sweet alcohol warming finish of long duration. Complex standout mead.
