Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Get this... Bottle marked July 11, 1996, Bottle #20937. Kulmbacher Reichelbrau Eisbock. Awesome! Many thanks to brewandbbq for this ancient treat! Pours dark brown with a very little, fizzy head. Smells sweet and malty, only a very tiny hint of oxidation. Tastes awesome. Dark and malty and caramelly sweet, somewhat roasty. Thick body, even with the lack of a significant head the carbonation is surprisingly good.

Pours a dark ruby amber with a thick, though quickly dissipating head. Rich malts and molasses, as well as dark fruits. Thick - this is a big brew. Flavor isn’t far from a good barley wine - it has the strength, for sure. The dark malts (with a little smoke) are perfectly offset by a great bitterness, and while it’s sticky, it does have a wonderful flavor. Far better than you’d guess from the label.

Poured a dark brown. big dark fruits overall, quite sweet. Really smooth and rich. Couldn’t quite get into this one. Just didn’t do it for me. Sometimes you can judge a book by its cover.

(GERMAN) The color is a dark brown almost black with a fizzy sm-white head. The aroma is a combo of molasses, caramel and prunes. The taste is of dark fruits, alcohol, and licorice. And the mouthfeel is extremely smooth and creamy !!! This was a pleasant suprise and i would drink it again.

This stuff is tasty. Pours a dark brown color with reddish highlights. Head is small to medium sized and is an off white color. Nose is booze, chocolate, caramel, yeast, and bread. Taste is very sweet with some caramel and sugar. The alcohol content is somewhat present but it makes the beer what it is. I enjoyed this one and the holographic label is pretty different as well.

nice malted/sweet aroma noted with very dry hint of alcohol, poured a very very dark brown with contrasting light head, wonderful fully carbonated taste with deep flavors of molasses with nice balance of sweetness and alcohol close to a barley wine flavor but very mild, palate with lasting sweetness with a little roasted nut lingering, wonderful drink.

Dark brown and clear with a nice head. Sweet smell of brown sugar, malts, and some molasses. Taste is pretty much the same as the smell. Thicker sort of body.

Pours a deep brown with tons of ruby/chestnut notes and a medium cream/bubbly off white head. Aroma of dark fruits, raisins, toffee, molasses, licorice, some vanilla and grains. Flavor of the same, very rich, lots of dark fruits, molasses, great texture, toffee and nuts.
