4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A deep ruby brown with a light tan head, smells of berries, grape and roast. Taste of spicy alcohol, bitter heavy roasted grains, heavy dark chocolate with a return of hints of berries and grapes from the aroma with a sweet toffee and vanilla coming through. Palate is slick and fully bodied and it finishes with a clean lager type finish. Super tasty and incredibly drinkable.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
330 ml bottle from saveur-biere.com
Dark brown body, with a small, creamy, dark beige head.
Aroma of dried fruits, cherries, marzipan, nuts, caramel, alcohol.
Taste follows this pretty much, but less intense and not very complex.
Mouthfeel is full, creamy, with a medium carbonation and it finishes with a long-lasting alcohol warmth, astringent, but only with slight, sweet aromas.
Slightly one-dimensional, but with pleasant, intense dark fruits and sweet malts, although I didn’t enjoy the taste and finish as much as the nose. Overall good, but I was expecting a bit more, not on par with the Schneider Weisse Eisbock in my opinion.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
what it lacks in complexity, it makes up for in sweetness and alcohol content. not a particularly well balanced beer, but the style doesn’t call for that. glad i tried it a couple times, but i probably won’t be back for more."

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
330 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/23/2012. Pours crystal clear dark reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, toffee, molasses, toast, brown bread, cherry, raisin, prune, fig, light chocolate, and toast/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and dark fruit notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, raisin, cherry, plum, fig, light chocolate, and toast/yeast earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, raisin, cherry, plum, fig, light chocolate, and toast/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and robustness of dark/bready malt and dark fruit flavors; with a great malt/fruitiness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth and fairly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent eisbock style. All around great complexity and balance of dark/bready malt and dark fruit flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from bottle into a snifter
Appearance – The beer pours a super deep mahogany color that is bordering on black. Upon pouring there is a small tan colored head that fades over about a two minute time frame to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass and some foam islands on the surface of the brew.
Smell – The aroma is huge of a dark fruit smell with tons of dark cherry, plum, fig, and grape. Along with these dark fruit and sweet smells are some of sweet smells of molasses. A good showing of roasted malt and toasted grain as well as a very strong booziness being there as well producing a quite dark and robust aroma overall.
Taste – The taste begins with a thick and sweet dark fruit flavor of cherry, plum, and prune. The sweeter fruit, which create a heavy base flavor for the brew, are also joined by some tastes of caramel and molasses. There is a good showing of a roasted malt flavor upfront which ends up getting slightly stronger as the taste moves to the end. As the taste moves beyond the middle of the profile, a little bit of an herbal and earthy flavor joins the tongue, but these remain relatively light throughout. Some toasted grainy flavors come more toward the end of the taste and are joined by some flavors of cocoa and even more molasses. With a light rummy boozed flavor coming to the tongue at the very end, one is left with a super dark and sweet flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is very thick and chewy with a very light level of carbonation. For the style and the big sweet and dark flavors of the brew the feel is spot on, making for one enjoyable slow sipper.
Overall – This is a very nice Eisbock with tons of sweetness and a good roastedness. A rather tasty and big sweet brew.
