COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Pours a deep brown with tons of ruby/chestnut notes and a medium cream/bubbly off white head. Aroma of dark fruits, raisins, toffee, molasses, licorice, some vanilla and grains. Flavor of the same, very rich, lots of dark fruits, molasses, great texture, toffee and nuts.

Wonderful beer. I stopped rating here but came back just to tell my wonderful experience with this one. I bought it because I’ve never had an ice beer that was supposed to be good; I was expecting the worst. The malty flavor is rich and inviting. I could not put this one down. Very friendly for a 9%, it must have been aged thoroughly to be so smooth. I’m going back for many more of these.

This beer is almost too good to believe! I’ll admit I’m still a novice, but for my money, this is one superb beer. It starts with a dark ruby pour with a medium head with a medium light tan head that fairly quickly fades and a brisk effervescence. The aroma almost knocked me over...the brown sugar and caramel aroma was incredibly sweet. The mouthfeel was rich, creamy, with just the perfect fullness and body. The sweetness was again evident in the taste along with a barrage of malt, sugar, various fruits, and the glowing warmth of the generous alcohol content. The melody lingered on long with a train of brown sugar, malt, fruit, and especially raisins. Prosit!

had fresh and a 2/12 year aged... wow, what a beer, fresh: it hides the alcohol wonderfully, aged: like a fine sherry ... a very srinable beer that glides down the throat ... lots of plum, belgian berry, some alco spice, berries, the aged has the same with some oak ..... an absolute wonderful brew... got from LS and the aged from biggreen at the july08 Htown tasting...

Appearance is pretty average but that’s all that is average about this beer. Very dark brown with a bit of a reddish hue... medium frothy tan head that dissipated extremely quickly with no lacing. Beautiful aroma of sweet cherries and malts. Flavor is a fairly simple blend of malts and sweets... mostly cherries and some caramel. Not overly complex but still delicious. No detection of the high alcohol content. Excellent.

33 cl. Deep mahogany with a huge and enduring creamy cap. Chocolate, raisins and molasses with a whiff of alcohol in the delicious nose. Flavor has all the same characteristics, plus some woody notes, toffee, corn and a slight dry-earth spiciness. Smooth medium-heavy body has some slight tingle on the end.

the expiry date is exceeded for 3 months!!! The beer in glass is deep brown, almost black with a surprisingly large head, which, however, does not hold too long. The Eisbock smells intensely chocolaty and roasted malt, almost like a good Imperial Stout. Starts chocolatey nutty, subtle caramel and fruity, just absolute amazing! The aftertaste is also shown chocolatey-roasty, resonates very long and warm. Especially for the winter season a brilliant beer. The center part is chocolaty, roasted malty with a strong body. Only a few little fruity nuances come through. Overall pleasant alcoholic-warming and just terrific!

Bottle. A - Dark black with some ruby brown hues on the edge. Small frothy and bubbly off-white head. Reduces fast with just tiny patches of lacing left. S - Somewhere between toasted and roasted dark malt. Fairly sweet with caramel, brown sugar and molasses present on the nose. Some dark fruit (plum and date especially) and just a faint hint of overly ripe banana. Some alcohol also present, making it somewhat like a dessert port or other dark dessert drink. Full, rich aroma with a promise of some sweet, gummy flavors. T - Similar to the nose. A lot of rich dark malt. A touch of bread flavors but loads of burnt caramel, brown sugar, molasses, and chocolate are much more dominant. Also a strong amount of dark fruit (strong plum, date, and raisin presence). All these make a sweet sticky, rich flavor. Some alcohol is present but it isn’t very strong and really just provides a nice warming touch that also balances the sweetness a bit. Mid sip there is a touch of earthy hops along with a nutty flavor and some dark chocolate and licorice. The dark malt and fruit comes out again at the end and lingers on the tongue. M - Full body with moderate carbonation. Very velvety, silky smooth with the flavors having a sticky/lingering aspect. A very full and rich beer. D - Very drinkable beer. It is a touch too sweet and too high of an ABV to have another in a night, but I certainly would be tempted. I would definitely would have it another night though. Such a rich and smooth beer with a lot of flavor means this is quite a drinkable beer. Makes a wonderful dessert or night capper. Notes: Best before 14/09/10. A very nice beer that is pretty sweet but not cloying and has enough flavors to balance it out. The alcohol is present and provides a nice warming, but it is very well masked. Very enjoyable beer that is a great way to finish a night. I highly recommend trying it.
