4-24-08 tap at HopLeaf in Chicago
Medium dark red brown pour with a decent fluffy ivory head and decent thick lacing. Smell is offensive malt and strange funk. Flavor is watery and bland and somewhat cottonlike. Palate is dull and weak. The smell just kills it for me - it smells like an old hospital and tastes like water that has been sitting out for three weeks in a contaminated glass. In other words, it just wasn’t one of my favorites.

Jul 6, 2008 On tap a Green Dragon in Portland, OR--Poured a rich brown-chestnut body with tinges of black. Quite hoppy with a nice soda-yeasty nose. Sticky, sweet, and floral, too. As beer continues on, other flavor come to light such as smoke, wood, toffee, java, and dark fruits. Very nice beer.

Jul 4, 2008 7/4/8 Looks: Black cherry with a cream head. Scent: Straw, roast and sour- yeast. Body is light and sticky. Taste: Roast & sour yeast. Cola. Very little alcohol. Chocolate.Fig. A bit too sticky for me.

Jun 24, 2008 This beer’s aroma is clearly it’s best quality. When it hits the right temp, notes of fruit, scorched chocolate, light smoke and chicory coffee really shine. Appearance has a deep brown body, damned near black, with a frothy, sea foamy 3-finger thick head. Soft notes of coffee and chocolate are there, as well as some fruity notes with a touch of yeast. Enjoyable schwarzbier, but nothing exceptional.
