I really liked this beer because it is very balanced and has a very yeasty nose. It is refreshing at the start but very soon the malty character takes over. The finish is dry and makes you want to sit down and have another "Seidla" as they call it in Franconia.

500ml bottle - thanks Marduk
Total cardboard aroma. Nice gold, decent head. Thin palate, carbonation quite high. Papery taste too, some weird esters too. Dry, and drying hops, leaves me thirstier than when I started. On a different day I might like this more.

500ml flip-top bottle. Cloudy dark amber color. Small size, bubbly yellow head, stays. Fart, cardboard, malty, acidic notes in aroma. Faint caramel, sweet plain malts in taste. Dusty notes in aftertaste. Some spicy down to earth hops too.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
A very mild malt character. You have the impression something’s missing on your tongue. Again a sour side note, typical for the Mönchshof brews, too sparkling and a lack of character. Seen that this beer is unfiltered, I wonder where have all the flavours gone that shouldn’t be filtered out?
Kellerbeers or Zwickels are normally freshly bottled from the kettle, without being filtered. And generally they offer a fresh and voluptious taste due to all the good things that are still in the liquid. And that’s what misses here. Besides the cloudy looks, it has not much in common with it’s style.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
50cl swing top bottle. Dark ambercolor, very cloudy, thick creamy offwhite head. Lots of bready malts, yeast, fairly doughy, noble hops. Taste is very well balanced within malts sweetness and bittering hops. Thick texture, full bodied, soft carbonation.
I do love zwickels, this one is excellent, very draft, as if it comes direcly from one of those wood barrels on the label (or more likely right off the lagering tanks...). It was unexpected to be so dark. Nice mouthfeel, body and ABV, impressive drinkability.
