COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The naturally-cloudy Mönchshof Kellar beer is the result of Mönchshof's centuries-long brewing tradition and of the love of traditional beer brewing. This amber color, mild beer appeals to lovers of unfiltered beer, the way it used to be. A tradional Mönchshof beer specialty.

Bottle. Grass/hay aroma. Almost clear greyish brown colour. Stable head. Starts off a little vinous, but turns more bitter. The bitterness is slightly rough and sour. Carbonation is above medium but still rather pleasant.

September 2008: My brown flip-top 0.5 litre bottle stated a best before date of 23 May 2009. Poured into a UK pint sleeve glass, it could have been a British bitter (only slightly cloudy). A good amber/light brown body of misty beer sat below an inch of biege foam, the inch soon fell away to less than half an inch though. The aroma was of hops mostly, but with a sweetnes not normally present in a hoppy smelling beer. Maybe the malts added more to the smell than I realised? Could still have been a Brit bitter at this stage. The taste was tart and crisp, it ain’t Brit, it ain’t a bitter either. Lager carbonisation levels, almost fizzy, well actually it was fizzy. Perhaps it was a bit young and needed more time in the bottle, it was fine, just a little too lively for me. I’ve already mentioned the over carbonisation, the alcohol is there for all to feel and it gets into your bloodstream quicker in fizzy drinks (as we all know). So I knew I’d had a drink half way through drinking it! I thought this a very pleasant beer, not great, but above average for the style and price I paid (in Germany, while on a beer run).

Pours dark orange hazy, cloudy, unfiltered, with big rocky white head. Lacing is long-lasting. Aromas are some plums, grains, sweet maltiness, maybe some nuts. Palate is medium bodied, fizzly carbonated and mouthful, also little tart fruity yeasty texture, quite crispy. Taste is roasted malts, hay, herbs. Aftertaste is bitter hoppy and quite dry. Finishes in a medium short hoppy bitterness. Overall quite good. Enjoeyd the crispy texture and hoppy bitter edge in the finish.

Sorry for the german rating, but this is a lousy rating from my "newbie" time (2007-2009), and it’s not worth of being translated. I just added it for the statistics, and to complete my backlog!
