The naturally-cloudy Mönchshof Kellar beer is the result of Mönchshof's centuries-long brewing tradition and of the love of traditional beer brewing. This amber color, mild beer appeals to lovers of unfiltered beer, the way it used to be. A tradional Mönchshof beer specialty.

Cloudy, medium-amber body. Taste: lightly citrusy initial flavor and finish with average duration. Palate: medium body, watery texture and soft carbonation. Overall: very good.

Bottle from backlog notes. Pours a slightly hazy dark amber/orange color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have toasted malts, some sweet malts, light fruit, grass, earthy character, thin and not very much character.

5.4% about 500 yen from Petit Marche near Imazato station. Served in a dimpled mug. It pours lovely honey brown with a light beige head that leaves a film over the surface of the beer. It has big malty fruity aroma with earthy plum notes. Light bodied with a scratchy carbonation. The taste is chewy malts, grains and light fruits. I don’t know why but I get a distinct breakfast ceral porridge like vibe. Alright I guess.

50cl swingtop bottle. Fresh from Germany, not to far from the brewery. Pours hazy orange with creamy, tan head. Head stays till the end with beautiful lacing. Aroma of malt, wheat and yeast. Some spice mixed with herbs. Oregano for some reason came to my mind. Smooth malty brew. Slightly bitter with sweet finish. Creamy at first, a bit slick in the middle with mild crisp finish. Well balanced, traditional German keller-beer. Preferably to be served at 8 degC.

Well-known and typical Kellerbier with off-white, irregular, stable, sticky head and dark orange colour with brownish hue, tending towards bronze, misty as expected for this style. Sweet malts, caramel, peat, leafy hops, walnuts, bit smoky, yeasty fruitiness. Malty taste of caramel and nuts, faint sweetness, smooth, bit peaty and smoky again, earthy and leafy hop bitterness in the finish, soft carbonation. Interesting lager.

A very simple beer, which is not to say a bad one by any stretch. Light toffee character, mild hints of grassy or herbal hops, extremely easy to drink, sort of reminds me of SA Boston Lager on some level. I’d drink it again.
