Bottle. Mahogany body with a tall head. Roasty aroma with coffee characteristics. Taste has some roast but is thin. Starts great but turns a bit watery by the finish. Quite good but not my "dream" beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft @ Haus Wertheim. Dark reddish brown with a light tan head. Aroma of dark toasty bread, cocoa, coffee and light smoke. Flavor is rich and malty with hints of cocoa and coffee, balancing hop bitterness and light smoke in the finish. Medium body with a smooth mouth feel. Excellent beer, kind of between a Dunkel and a Schwartz with a bit of smoke.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUL 6, 2013 Dark brown, almost black with 2 fingers of tanned head.
Aroma is of cocoa, cafe and a ton of roasted malts. Liquor, more roasted malts, dark chocolate and some bitternes in mouth.
With little bit more of body and softer carbonation it could be a really good beer. Anyways still the best Schwarz that I ever drunk.
Some days later, I drunk one more and it was contaminated. Strange for a German Brewery. Schade.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours clear, dark brown. Lots of head which dissipates quikcly, leaving a lace of bubbles on the surface. Aroma has malts, molasses, jam. Flavor is bitter, roasty, ashy on the front. Not sweet like you might expect from the aroma. Finish is dry but not sticky.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark garnet with a thick, creamy head. Strong, pleasant, caramelly aroma. Taste of bitter coffee, sparkling and alcoholic. Palate is a bit thin, but hardly worth mentioning.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a pitch-black body, with a huge light brwon head that diminishes quickly, leaving almost no lace. Mostly coffee aroma, but very nice medium bitter taste, notes of coffee, some faint notes of dark chocolate too. Low carbonation level, full bodied, oily texture. A very good schwarz.
