Mönchshof Schwarzbier- "the Black Pils"- is a brewing wonder and a brew-lover's dream. Supremely drinkable, dry and beautifully hopped, yet loaded with dark malt flavor.

It has a nice persistent foam and a delicious aroma of hard roasted malt with a little flavor also on fruit. The taste is rich and good and come back with hard roasted malt with a sensible portion of caramel malt which maintains an almost too perfect sweetness that surpasses the slightly bitter coffee notes. Hop bitterness is slightly present and prefer a long aftertaste with slightly fruity shades. Very rich and very tasty schwarzbier. For the first time in my schwarzbier-hiking I find a copy as my taste buds love as much as my favorite schwarz from Köstritzer. Although the two beer is not completely similar to each other in the aftertaste, they have, however, both a high quality.

Bottle from a REWE in Nuremberg. Dark brown with a slight, off-white, head. Plenty of sweetish, chocolate, character, a slightly jarring vegetal edge and touch of toasted malt in the finish. Ok.

0.5 L flip top bottle poured into a dimpled mug. Black with medium light brown head. Aroma is light chocolate, medium body, medium carbonation, and good thin small-bubble lacing. Taste malty chocolate with a slightly dry finish. Good Schwartz bier.

Bottle. Deep dark with beige foam, dissipates fairly quick, slight lacings. Milky, roasted aroma, dark fruit, overall a nice roundess to it. Taste follows the same fashion, with a semi sweet, roasted taste with a slight bitterness throughout the end. Medium to big body, light to medium carbo. A delicate, well-rounded schwarzbier, flavourful and drinkable at the same time.

Marrone scuro, quasi nero, con una bella testa di schiuma color caramello molto chiaro di buona persistenza. Al naso e al palato malti tostati, malti caramellati, cacao. Dissetante e leggera, una buona schwarzbier.
