Bottle from Kris Wines. Cool swingtop bottle. This beer looks splendid, a very dark brown colour which reveals glimmers of chestnut and ruddiness when held to the light. The head is big, white and lasts all the way down. Aroma is malty, roasty with a hint of cream and hop. Perhaps a little watery on the palate, it tastes malty the there’s a bit of bitterness in the finish to balance it off. Nice.

Very strong robust malt aroma that burn the nostrils. Dark amber color with a medium off white head. Moderate sweet beginning with a tangy alcohol burn. Lighter palate.

A super deep brown color with flickering ruby high lights. A tan and tall and fluffy cloud of a foam topper. Great lacing and well carbonated. Aroma has a rich and velvetty feel. Lots of roasted malts and molasses in the scent. Richly malted with roasted malts and molasses. As an added bonus there is also a sutle smokiness in the taste...excellent. Has a medium feel thats quite smooth going down. An easy drinking smooth flowing killer of a beer. Definitely one of my favorites.

Pours a brilliantly clear deep mahogany with a long lasting pillowy head. Aroma can almost be mistaken for a stout or porter- very deep roast of chocolate and coffee, the only real lager-like character is that there is no yeast profile. Taste is like fresh dark wort straight out of the mash tun. Milk chocolate, bread, floral/woody hop finish. Body is medium, chalky, assertive carbonation, long dry finish. Overall, this is bomb.com. One of the better schawrzes I’ve had.

pours black with a wispy off-white head and some spotty lacing. aroma has notes of sweet dark malt, damp earth, maple and pine. taste is well balanced with sweet caramel notes and subtle but apparent bitterness. finish is bittersweet with a note of anise. a lovely, well balanced beer.

Originally reviewed: 5/17/10. Big bottle with a swing-top. Poured into a pilsner glass. Pours a dark brown/black with a thick light beige head on top. Great retention. Left lots of sticky lace on the glass. Scents of roasted chocolate malts, fresh bread, and finishes slightly musty. The body has a decent carbonation presence but it thins out some. Could stand a bit more depth. Good sweet molasses flavors, some light cocoa, and mild bitterness. This is a good beer. Quickly becoming one of my favorite styles.

Bottle. Coffee and dark chocolate aroma. Dark brown with reddish highlights. Big rocky head, which soon broke up into mold-like little clumps, and heavy lacing. Smooth roast and mild chocolate flavors. A long but very mild aftertaste. A well-made dark brew, though without much character.
