COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“Don’t be afraid of the dark!” Kulshan Porter is brewed in the Brown Porter style. Deep mahogany in color, the beer is topped with a rich mocha-colored head. The roasted barley aroma is accented with notes of coffee and chocolate. The flavor is smooth and silky with roasty-toasty grains blended with coffee, chocolate and a touch of toffee. The aftertaste is smooth and clean.

Sampled on tap at Kulshan tasting room, pours a very dark reddish brown with a small tan head. Aroma of light roast, light espresso beans, and cocoa powder. Flavour of very nice light roasted malt, dry espresso, and bittersweet cocoa powder. Great porter.

Dark borwn in color, thin tan head. Deep rich dark malt flavor with a nice chocolate aroma and flavor. This was a very tasty Porter.

Very tasty and highly sessionable porter with a pleasant amount of roast, and lesser notes of creamed coffee and milk chocolate. It’s on the robust side, which I like, and I’m glad it’s not overly sweet like many porters out there. That’s not to say it’s overly hopped / bitter, though, because it’s actually really balanced. I hate to draw comparisons, but it’s kind of similar to Deschutes Black Butte Porter, and that is a compliment. I really feel this porter will win awards if it’s entered into beer competitions because, stylistically, it’s right on, and flavor-wise, it’s delicious.

Transluscent, deep mahogany brown with a small head and minimal but nice lacing. Dutch processed cacao and roast in the nose. Inviting aroma. Flavor reflects those, and is extremely dry with just a hint of coffee and woody smokiness. Body is reasonably creamy, firm, and true to the style, and the finish lingers nicely. I wasn’t expecting much when I walked into this little neighborhood gem, but I was astounded by their robust and complex RIS, and while this beer isn’t quite in that league, it’s quite refreshing and flavorful.
