Can from next to Shirahama station. No idea what to expect. Great hop and citrus on the nose and the hops stay around long enough for a good session beer.

Can from Foodshow in Shibuya. Nice light stone fruit and peach nose. Average carbonation with a medium body. Fairly clean and not as malt driven as many brown ales are in Japan. Nice, peppery bitterness on the finish. It’s OK, but not necessary by any means.

Yatagarasu beer - a three-legged giant crow that lead legendary first Emperor Jimmu of Japan from Kumano to Yamato. The creature is also pictured on the 350 ml can. I guess I got it from Takashimaya at Nagoya station. Pours nice clear amber with a frothy head that dissipates soon into a thin film. Aroma is fruity, light tropical hops, promising for a good and refreshing gulp. Taste has some malty sweetness, fruits and rather medium or even light body - that combined with nice hop balance makes it quite quaffable. I think it is actually my second time to try this beer and I seem to like it now more than the last time. Looking forward to the third time.

Nice tropical hops, peach, caramel. Fruity malt, apricot, pine, clean finish. A bit too simple overall, but a rare decent japanese hoppy brown ale

Bottle from Queens Plaza Beer and Wine January 2014. Solid brown ale with a deep brown colour and tan head. Slightly bitter finish.

hay, nuts, spruce, citrus, amber, clear, light sweetness, lightly bitter, light body, average carbonation. Interesting aroma, sweet citrus with some forest notes. Nice and clean tasting, quite hoppy and fruity. A bit too on-the-nose in terms of taste, if it were a bit more mellow this would be the kind of brew you’d have a hard time not cracking one after another.

przyjemny, chmielowy (ziołowy) zapach, z lekkimi owocowymi nutami i świeżym sianem. kolor bursztynowy, obfita dość trwała piana. w smaku pełne, lekko karmelowe z niską, ale wyraźną i przyjemną goryczką.

Can picked up at a souvenir shop on the way back from Shirahama. 5% roughly 350 yen, I had no idea it was brewed by Ise Kadoya! Very pale for a brown ale, a honey brown with q decent head. Served in a pint glass. Surprisingly hoppy though mild aroma of Saaz spice & grass/herbal notes. A thin-medium body with some brown ale sweet & nutty character followed by a sour citrusy finish which then has some malt notes popping up again. It is Good enough but not amazing, try it if you see it but you don’t need to seek it out I think.

Can. Golden amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is lightly spicy, bit of caramel, grassy hops with a touch of citrus. Smells pretty nice. Taste is a bit disappointing, light caramel, small bitterness at the finish, but feels a bit thin. Little bit of fruit and some sweetness. Nice enough, but maybe not so interesting. Feel like it could be much nicer with a few little tweaks, mainly a bit more body.

Can from Michael’s on Kita-Shirakawa in Kyoto. Very nice and light. Kind of surprising for a brown ale. Perfect for the hot weather right. Nice sweet ending. It is nothing really exceptional, but it is very enjoyable (and quite inexpensive).

Can. Dark amber body, thin head. Fruity, spicy nose, faint hops. Medium to lively carbonation. Palate a tad thin, but some flavours of molasses, malt and salty hops combine nicely. Nothing outstanding, but not too offensive. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
