Average Weizen........ MoritzF (3926), Ruhrpott, Germany Aug 31, 2008 (bottle) Hazy, light-amber colour with a big cream-coloured foamy head. Sweet and slight sour-fruity nose with ripe citrus and clovy phenols. Slightly sweet flavour with a tinge of hoppy bitterness, light to medium bodied with a lively carbonation. Wheaty and (mainly) citrus-fruity taste with lighter notes of banana; quite dry and slightly acidic, fruity finish with shy hints of bitter hops. Not bad (14.08.08). Ungstrup (11385), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 8, 2007 Draft. An unclear orange beer with a light orange head. The aroma is sweet and very wheaty combined with light notes of banana and mango. The flavor is sweet malty and wheaty with a light note of mango - which is stronger than the banana note, which it has too. I wonder what yeast is used - it doesn’t seem that German - but quite nice indeed. Somewhat of a surprise. rauchbier (2874), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England Dec 20, 2006 Bottle, at the brewpub, November 2006. Hazy gold, good lasting white head and moderate condition. Good solid clovey phenolic nose with plenty of esteriness and fruity banana notes, more muted in the mouth and quite thin with gentle cloves and fruitiness but becoming dry and slightly bitter with time, short dry finish with some fruitiness.
