(Rating #4246)

MJGG (784) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 18, 2012

UPDATED: MAR 18, 2012 My Bottom Line:
Generous rye and spicy hops are completed by haystacks and banana esters in this compelling brew.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam covers the cloudy pale blond.
-Hops also contribute mint-like freshness and wild coniferous angles. This is hoppier than the average Lithuanian traditional brew.
-The flavor profile and mouthfeel can be reminiscent of some Bière de Gardes, if you are looking for something to compare it to.
-The soft, fluffy effervescence makes this very drinkable.
-This is very drinkable if its idiosyncrasies don’t scare you.
-The herbal hop bitterness is leveled to the rest of the brew’s medium intensity.
-The aroma is a tantalizing experience. Definitely countryside, but not like any Saison or Bière de Garde I’ve ever had. The Lithuanians really do things differently and have their own, unique beer culture.

Bottle.

Really nice pour! Great head, dense mostly with a little froth. Incredibly bright gold color. Aroma of lemon, hay, lactic acid. Flavor was moderately sour, with a hint of bitterness almost to the clashing point. Pepper. No sweetness. Light bodied, very light in the mouth but not spritzy per se - even has a creamy element in the palate at first. Very drying beer.

Bottle, 5%. I thought it said J.O. Boiko. Citric aroma, hint of fruit. Very cloudy, milky orange colour. Small stable white head. The flavour is slightly sweet, there is some wheat to it. Not very spicy or anything, perhaps a hint of clove. Good full mouthfeel, but a little slimy.

1L Bottle (shared by FatPhil - Thanks) - Hazy gold/amber in colour. Sweet aroma with malt and a hint of honey. Sweetish taste with some hops, malt and some slightly spicy notes, with hints of banana and peach.

UPDATED: MAY 6, 2012 1l bottle (Iki, Vilnius) (6:3:7:4:13=3.3)
Pale orange, cloudy, brief head. Initial wit-like aroma. Pleasant carbonation, crisp in the mouth. Banana-ey taste, but also loads of delicious tingly hop bite. Lovely noble hop finish.
Rerate: Bottle (?) (7:3:6:3:13=3.2) - similar to before. Respect for the quality. Then again, the guy’s a great brewer, I shouldn’t be surprised.
