Tall flip-top bottle: best before 15 Dec 2012. Poured (three times) into one of my Hannen Alt glasses @ home during a random tasting evening on 16 Nov 2012. Looks reminded me of a cola with a head that stayed longer than normal: certainly that colour anyway. Poor nose: just weak malt notes and an earthy whiff. The taste is also on the weak side: mildly malty but no depth or ’umph’ to the brew at all, a big disappointment to be honest. Maybe it’s better fresh or on-tap, but I doubt it. The beer did seem to grow on me a little as I got used to its flavours, there was some bitterness to be found along with those malts mentioned earlier but it still didn’t cut the mustard as a good Alt in my eyes.

On tap at the brewpub. Clear copper pour with thin creamy white head. Aroma is vegetal, sweet, bad fermentation, caramel. Taste is sweet, wet grass, really dirty, earthy, feed mill, light acidity. Gross.

Draft @ Brewpub. Pours a clear amber beer with a medium sized off white head on top. Aroma is earthy, malty, touch of caramel and red fruits. Flavor has a big fruity presence, medium sweet and lasts long on the back of the tongue. Medium carbo, decent mouthfeel and very nice alt.

Bottle 0.5l. Pours dark brown with large off white head. Aroma is malty, caramel, slightly roasted. Taste is light sweet, medium bitter, roasted, very malty, nutty. Aftertaste is light bitter with a slightly roasted flavour. Really good session Alt. From tap it is even better. Will rate the tap version again in the near future.

Draft at the brewpub. Medium brown, med head. There isn’t much aroma other than basic caramel, a touch of yeast, lots of breadcrust, and a fairly basic profile overall. Ok alt.

On tap @ The Brauhaus. Dark orange brown, reasonable head. Sweet, slightly sickly, grain toffee malt aroma. Sweet spicy cinammom malt flavour. Sweet malty aftertaste. Interesting but a bit too sweet for me.

Flasche. Herrlich.

UPDATED: JUN 12, 2014 Draught@source, Tour de Rheinländle GC 02/2014. Poured from a transparent modern-style pump cylinder. Pours an appealing clear amber-brown. Slight eggy unpasteurised aroma, some aromatic malts coming through. Slightly rough, dry palate without the distinctive Alt woody taste. Medium earsmear hop bitter. Makes sense this also tastes like the youngest Alt in town. // bb04/2014 50cl bottle opened 06/2014: gone subtly sour, together with woody tannins makes for Methusalem Light. Prime stuff.

(from notes) Draft. faint malt nose and a peppery-rye type bomb, maybe a small bomb, but there. Very faint esters if at all. moderate hop bitterness with a phenomenal malt richness, but not cloying either. Best malt profile I have had in an alt yet. Hop flavor is a bit low compared to the others so far. A complex malt and ester interaction.

On tap at the source. Pours a clear amber with a creamy tan head that lasts throughout the beer and laces. Aroma has a combination of grains, bread and leaves. Flavor starts with bread and leaves that last throughout but quite drinkable.
