COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Schwarzbier - keine Angst! Bottle, picked up at rewe in steglitz. Looks just like a dubbel, a rich shade of very dark brown ith a thin beige head; curious aroma of walnut skin, sour cherry and almond; loads of flavour - burning rubber, olive brine, sherbet, brown sugar, melt-in-the-mouth texture. Original and quite sophisticated

Bottled@CPH BF 2013. Thanks to Timo A. who warmly has recommended this over the years on various festivals, where this has been around. Finally did it, and do not need to regret it! Pours very close to black, with a small beigeish brown head. Aroma is nicely ashy and roasted, but at the same time nicely nutty, sweet caramel malty and also some ripe fruits and a bit of alcohol to it. Flavour is consists of the same and gives a very nice body to it. Kick ass.

500 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a small beige head. A big sweet fruity nose. Light chocolate, sugary sweet malts, raisin. The overall beer is great big malty fruity bases with light smoke.

Bottle from Star Grocery in Berkeley, CA. Pours dark brown with a foamy beige/tan head. Aroma seems salty, dark malt? Or how about a bit of Welches’ grape juice? Whatever, it’s nice. Med body or so. Flavor? Salty Welches’ grape juice? Seriously, it seems New York grape. It also seems malty. So it’s fruity and malty. I’m liking it.

I’ve had this on draught and in the bottle. Both have a silky smooth body, mellow roast note (not acrid), and a gentle cocoa note in the middle to finish. Such an easy beer to drink. Its got more body and flavor than most Schwartzbiers I’ve had, but not as bold as your average Baltic Porter. Kind of a punchier Schwartzbier or softer Baltic Porter.

UPDATED: OCT 8, 2014 Dark brown colour, medium brown head. Coffee, nuts on the nose. Sweet taste of malts, with a medium bitterness. Long finish, with a hint of roasted coffee. Overall tasty and enjoyable.

Thanks to Julia Dubowy for the bottle --- Opaque dark brown color with a good 1/2" tan head, full cover of cobweb lace. Taste is solid caramel malt that grows a little in the palate, without any additions, then turning to a finish that has very little hops, which this style doesn’t actually require anyway. An appealing malty brew, excellent for an autumn evening in front of the first fire. Recommended.

Bottle from Gassen Krug in Schwerin. Lasting brown head. Totally black color beer. Caramell and a tuch of fresh tobacco in the aroma. Sweet malty taste with a long lasting medium bitterness. Very much cara taste. Big body and some fruitiness. Not a Schwartzbier but a fine night cap.

Bottle from Berkeley Bowl West. Pours near black with an attractive tan head and a chocolate and treacle aroma. There is a hearty smoked malt flavor with some dark molasses and anise and a dry bitter finish. A traditional Schwarzbier.

Bottle at home grabbed for the brandenberg tick but glad I did quite tasty. Pours deep dark chocolate. Nose is coffee and bread. Tastes of milk chocolate, bread crust, ash, and root beer. Creamy palate not too sweet.
