Black,. yellow brown foam that lasts. Sour aroma with a hint of burned malt. Thick with low carbon. Malty taste with a little fruit. Strong aftertaste, coffee and chocolate that lasts somewhat. Not a typical scwarzbier and not well balanced.

Aus der Flasche getrunken (Kauf im Getränkehandel). Fast schwarz mit mächtigem Schaum im Glas. Im Antrunk komplexe Röstaromen, später bleibt dann (leider!!) nur Lakritze.

Bottle, consumed within the confines of my living room.
Pours basically black with a big tan head & a little lacing on the glass.
The aroma is clean & malty with some light toffee and mild roast. It’s lightly fruity & lightly sweet... Rich & inviting.
The flavor is herbal & lightly bitter... It’s got a nice roastiness all around and a touch of mild toffee... although it’s largely on the drier side.

500ml bottle - thanks Marduk!
Pleasant roasty aroma, a touch sweet, but in a way that matches the roast, which is almost coffee-ish, and cakey from the sweetness. Basically black, brief tight off-white head. Full palate, smoothish, pleasant carbonation. Sweet roasty body, some slightly metallic hops. Finish carries the metallic hops more than the roast, the roast comes over as also metallic from the dark roast. COvers the alcohol well. Finish gets a little sweet and mashy later, but still good.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
500ml bottle. Very dark chestnut color. Small size, bubbly tan head, stays. Roast, cocoa, faint coffee, sweetish in aroma. Smells nice. Nice roast, sweet, bit milky, grainy, chocolate in taste. Nice milky and mellow roast in aftertaste. Pleasant in mouth. Soft carbonation. Very nice balance. Excellent brew.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Nose is deep chocolate and fudge with a light smokiness. Tate is much more smoke forward with a light phenolic and bacon essence. Phenolic a last through the finish with a full and sweet mouthfeel. Not much of a swarzbier but a great smoked doppelbock.

Aroma: dark malts, soya sauce, red fruits, chocolate.
Appearance: deep brown color and nice beige head.
Taste: roasted dark malts, red fruits, slightly warming alcohol, caramel, weak bitter chocolate, soya sauce, semi-dry.
Palate: medium body and medium carbonation, roasted finish.
Overall: It is rather a younger brother of porter and in considering this beer in the cateogry of porters it is a really nice beer,

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Hazelnut brown beer, medium fluffy off-white head. Nose is malts, bready and metallic notes, some dusty chocolate. Flavor begins somewhat watery but builds up to coffee, dust, chocolate and adds some hops in the finish. Some warm booziness in the aftertaste, coffee and chocolate in the retronasals. Easily drinkable.
