Bottled. Clear nut brown, small head. Sweet worty malt provides meium body and well rounded mouthfee. Raisiny and bready, low bitternes. Surprisingly good commercial dark lager.

Bottled@omhper. Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is sweet malts, some fruits, grass, earth and mild toasted and dark fruity notes. Flavour is fruits, wood, some earth and mild floral notes.

Clear brown color, tan head. Malty, sweet, wort like scent. Sweet, malty, apple taste. Medium to smooth mouthfeel, low bitterness.

Slightly sweet and sour malt aroma, typical Latvian beer smell! Sweet and sour malt taste with caramell tones and an unpleasant aftertaste. Damn! This is awful!

500ml bottle (Maxima, Riga)
5 Sweet malty lager aroma, plenty of caramel. Some lighter acidic tones after a good swirl.
3 Tell-tale caramelly reddening, brief frothy head.
4+ Fairly dull taste, some caramelly burntness, a little bit of grain husks.
3- Simple soft palate, decent carbonation. Finish part sweet, part husky, but rather nondescript.
8 Very simple dunkel, basically a dull lager with caramel. Royal Unibrew just ain’t doing good things in this part of the world. Gimme back that messed up local Latvian stuff, not this sanitised boring stuff.

From a 500ml bottle on 20/7/2010. The bottle said Lacplesis Melnais Dzintara and listed the abv as 4.6%. Has faint hints of malt, fruit and caramel in the nose. Flavour wise, there is a bit of sweet malt and a touch of fruit, but little else. A disappointingly bland dark beer.
