Hazy golden ale with a thick white head. Sweet white wine aroma. Rather sweet malt with alcohol notes and dryish finish. Light bodied. Mondial 2005.

500ml bottle. Poured a hazy yellow color with a smaller sized head. White wine, grapes, and fruity. Definitely dominated by the white wine concentrate.

2008-07-11. Golden yellow with a modest white head. (3+) Lightly yeasty aroma with touches of alcohol and fruit notes. Light alcohol in the flavour is restrained considering the alcohol content. Light fruit, hints of the wine though perhaps I am looking for it - I’m not sure if I would have picked it out without knowing it was there. Average palate. Decent but a bit dull. MartinT (7811) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 7, 2005
The Lure:
White grapes and floating yeast conjure up some tart predictions. Banana sweetness lies within, but that yeast is still bugging me.

The Festivities:
A sticky yeast and placid white wine fruitiness dissolve into an easy-going finish. A light acidity lashes the tongue, but all in all this tastes unpolished and perhaps too young.

Transcendence:
Apparently the neighbor’s started brewing beer.

Bottle courtesy of glouglouburp. Pours copper with a nice white head. Smells of citrus, light pepper, dough, dry malt. Tastes of lemon zest, some nice dry malt. Mouthfeel is full with a nice tarte finish.

Cloudy deep yellow, no head. Vinous and grapey tart nose. Sweet honeyed grass and a generous chardonnay profile combine in a juicy way. Highly astringent nature, seemingly growing with every sip. Drysih grain residuals make up for most of the malt flavours and somehow don’t match the alcoholic feel and big tartness level. Medium bodied, perhaps a bit too full in fact for what it tries to be. Not my style I fear.

Bottle (750ml). Shared by blankboy with gregclow, jerc, mabel & tupalev. Clear pale amber, small wispy whitish head. Aroma reminds me of a dry, light hefeweizen - fruity (banana, apple) and mildly spicy - sweet and clean. Taste - strong apple, slightly oxidized, mild alcohol (10%? really?), sweet yeast, light banana, but a little thin. Weak body, mild carbonation, slightly papery in the finish - has that "Quebec" character I can’t define --- but it’s there.

My Bottle (750ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc, mabel & tupalev. 2008 vintage. Pours a slightly hazy yellow-orange with an average size white head. Aroma’s sweet and yeasty along with a bit of fruit and spices. Flavour’s the same: Sweet, yeasty and fruity but I find the lightly hoppy finish a little iffy, not sure why. I get no alcohol at all which is impressive -- is this really 10%? Average bodied. Nothing great but still decent, I didn’t mind it.

In short: A cross between a yeasty blonde ale and the cheapest of white-wine. Berk.
How: Bottle 750ml. Age unknown, probably fresh. Left behind in my fridge by someone after a night of drinking. I swear I don’t drink Barberie brews!!
The look: Clear golden topped by a medium head with low retention
In long: The nose is yeasty with notes of white grapes. Taste is initially not so bad but with every sip the sweet the bad stuff was piling on my taste buds. Weird how it really got worse and worse. There is a basic yeasty blonde beer in there with also an ok flavour of orange cookies. But the bad stuff is a taste of cheap white-wine and also those sweet fruity shooters that they sell in stupid sports-bar. Berk! And to think a friend brought that expensive beer to my place probably to try to impress “the beer-geek”. Barberie really make some the shittiest beer in Quebec. I am too polite the tell the brewer to get lost. But given the opportunity I will however give him bad directions.

[1516-20080711] 750 bottle. Light floral yeast aroma. Hazy, light orange brown body with a quick foamy white head. Floral yeast flavour has a hint of banana fizz. Medium body is fizzy. Surprisingly drinkable, not too alcoholic.

Overheard: "Brown... smells like Quebec."
