The_Jester (465), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Feb 20, 2008 500 mL bottle. Nice looking beer; transparent copper-brown with a small beige head. Smells like the cola syrup used in slushies, more than anything else. The taste contains brown sugar, burnt toast, and dark fruit, in a confused sort of way. Medium body and carbonation.
Roli (286), laval, Quebec, Canada Jan 14, 2008 500ml bottle. Big white head, amber color. Not my favorite rousse from La Barberie, but it is quite good. Complex taste of roasted malt, spice and fruits. Caramel was also hinted in this one. finish is bitter. A good one. minibus (271), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jan 5, 2008 500 ml bottle. Dark red brown with a medium mocha head that leaves a nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is very sweet, with caramel, fruit cake, smoke yeast, roasted malt, alcohol and some dark fruits. Flavour is similar to the aroma is similar to the aroma, but every flavour seems to be downgraded a notch. Medium body. Pretty good overall. pootzboy (855), Calgary/ Kitchener, Alberta, Canada Oct 4, 2007 "strong red ale on lees" Bottled 38 days from purchase according to the date code on the 500ml bottle.
Poured a rich cloudy red-brown with a decnt 1 finger cap that laces well enough.
Aromas of earthy dried fruits, light smoke and woody tones.
Taste is a curious blend of caramel amber malt sweetness and black malt astringency combined with starnge earthy yeast tones and some fruity esters....finishes with a bitter edge...no off tastes but just a lot of tastes which don’t seem to belong together.
Not a bad beer just weird with a bunch of mismatched flavors....and it doesn’t hide its alcohol very well.
