COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Silky black colour that floods your senses. The aromas of roasted grains underlines a strong alcoholic smell. The tastebuds are submerged in flavours, initially hot alcohol, followed by malts and finally hoppy bitterness. The combination of flavours lasts and lasts.

Bottle. Black in colour. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate and light coffee. The flavour had some chocolate notes, vanilla, slightly sweet. Chalky mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with a medium roast bitterness. Nice.

Bottled: wow! pours black viscous syrupy wicked chocolate colored head. Absolute light shedding black...great lace soft carbonation. Nose is sweet cocoa, coffee and some lemon grass. Big chewy viscous mouth feel BUT.....This imp is a tad too sweet and contains tastes that really bad which mingle with an otherwise good Imp-stout taste profile...like blood on wet metal..horrible taste from God knows what....salty finish...I’m as disappointed with this one as I was with the Bells imp stout...poorly constructed...over kill on hop boil and charred malt have injected some unpalatable flavor tones in this beer’s profile. This was a trojan horse stout...looks wonderful, smells nice ....Thick chewy mouth feel to die for.....then a taste profile let down...salt, metal and blood tastes do not belong in stouts I drink.

Dammit. Just wrote my creative review and got timed out. So now the Coles Notes: Basic dark brown appearance, some vanilla and light coffee aromas, basic sweet coffee flavours but something kinda metallic too?, slight bitterness in finish. Just OK.

Substantial stout, chewy, medium bodied, a bit sweet with light roast. Falls short at the end.

Pours very dark, brown head. Interesting earthy aroma, not much roastiness to it. Slightly tart. Medium bodied, no real alcohol present but that wasn’t expected anyway. Not great for the style, but not bad overall.

Fresh, thanks to Pierre’s visit home in Quebec City. Sourish bitter, and thick, with ample and good carbonation. Good roast aroma

bottled 11/2004 - Pour is nearly pitch black, with a nice brown head that lasts. Roasted malt aroma, dark chocolate and some fruitiness. Roasty start, followed almost immediately by a metallic, iron flavor. Rather unappealing. A little sweetness hints around then it really bitters out. Bitter black coffee to finish. Mouthfeel is a bit thin for an imperial stout, and for any stout for that matter. Alcohol is fairly well disguised. Below average, I’d say...I wonder if it were aged...

Bottled. Very black. Coffee and molasses in th nose. Rich and tarry, but also sweet and raw. Notes of metal and blood. Mellow mouthfeel, decent bitterness.

Bottle. Pitch black color with a medium light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, fruits and molasses. Strong, assertive flavor of roasted malt with fruity esters, brown sugar and soya, bitter finish. Light body, way too light for an imperial stout, very liquorous texture, soft carbonation. If only this beer had more body it would be far more acceptable and decent as an imperial stout, it feels more like a light porter that is very strong of the roastyness.
