Im Antrunk ist das Bier sehr zurückhaltend, im Mittelpunkt steht...nichts. Am Rande wässriges Malz, das später nussiger und fester wird, auf der anderen Seite dezente, nicht sehr vielversprechende Hopfennuancen. Das Bier wirdspäter wie erwähnt zwar intensiver, vergleichsweise aber dennoch schwach ausgeprägt, irgendwie fehlt hier etwas. Schnell wieder wässriger, was angesichts der deutlichen Röstigkeit schade ist. Trocken, deutlicher hopfig und hefig. 10/8/8/8/10/8

Hazy dark amber color with red; small head, suitable to a Real Ale.
At first there is a mild whiff of vegetables, followed by a very light but suspicious sourness, and finally sweet malt and caramel.
Good body strength; caramel and malt flavor, quite sweet, but there is also a very strong flavor of sweet liquorice (not being listed among the ingredients, this is a second suspicious sign); the bitterness is strong, but at this point purposeless, and there aren’t the qualities of the noble hops (Magnum, Simcoe, Cascade), no fruitiness, maybe some resins and hop oils.
It comes from a solid recipe, but with some troubles in the execution; to be adjusted...

Bottled (BBE 2010)
Brown-red color, small off-white head. Caramelly, sticky, white peppery, berryish aroma. Medium-bodied. Caramelly front, peppery-spicey hoppyness, berryish background. Lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. Not a Scotch ale.

Bottled (thanks Bov!). Amber colour, small slightly off-white head. Aroma is fruity, berries, and mild toffeeish notes. Flavour is sweet fruity along with mild toasted and caramel malts. Also some berries. Ends quite dry and mildly toasted.

Bouteille 33 cl de www.erzbierschof.ch. Bière orange-brune à courte mousse. Arômes doux-amers de malt, caramel, houblon et fruits exotiques. Le goût prend curieusement quelques secondes avant le caramel malté et la morsure de l’amertume houblonnée. Notes salées, pamplemousse et réglisse. Une interprétation personnelle de la Scotch huileuse mais sans beurre, sans note rance, sans tourbe, sans fumée et sans douceur liquoreuse (que du caramel) et un houblon amérisant trop présent.

Pours sleazy, viscous to small mango-yellow head over hazy amber-brown beer. End-of-bottle yeast as toxic waste. Serious C-hops, bark spices, coloured malts, human sweat. Very bitter, both hoppy and roasted malty - probably spiced too, as sucking on cinnamon bark. Pretty harsh bitterness, a tad unrefined - horse chestnut instead of tame. Viscous, astringent, serious alcoholwarming. Liquorice, even harsh zwarte drop warming up. Not too convinced. Smaug is dead, let him be. Tres grand merci à A & D pour les bouteilles!

Bottled, thanks Bov! Cloudy nut brown, creamy head. Caramelly with slight lactic notes of dusty cranberry. Sweet and soft, near full bodied. Plenty of caramel, some salty licorice, slightly resiny bitterness.
