COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A honey beer that never lets you forget the fact. Although there is only a slight trace of it in the nose the intensity of the honey in the palate may be a bit much for some people. This is an accomplished beer that oozes quality yet retains a small brewery taste. Also sold as Berenbier in Flanders.

I have got this one already twice @ Kulminator in Antwerp. I don’t know correct, but on the dust to see, it kinda looks vintage. It’s one of the better honey beers, there are kinda flowties in the beer. But, the taste is very indepet, texture kinda bready, no head. But it givis a feeling like a congac or something like that, the beer isn’t sweet @ all. Maybe this is the review of a vintage bottles, but it’s very good.

33cl bottle @ home shared with Thompson. Hazy yellow color, average sized, quickly vanishing, slightly lacing white to off-white head. Smell malts, some fruits and a slight hint of sour. Taste malts, slight fruitpeel-bitterness, again a hint of sourness. A bit fizzy carbo, low to medium body.

Dumpy 33cl brown bottle, best before19 Nov 2011: poured slowly into a Leffe badged chalice on 22 May 2011. No sediment left the bottle, so the beer was a pale amber colour, almost clear, but not quiet. A wispy white covering with a thicker collar appeared as I poured, the collar stayed, the rest left fairly swiftly. Not a lot of smell coming from the beer, some summer fruits and floral notes, but not a lot of anything. I couldn’t find any honey in the aroma, but it does have strong hints of honey in the flavours once you start to drink the beer. This is in a style that has some hit hitters (Duvel and La Chouffe, etc, etc.), so how does it stand up against such brews? The taste is honey sweet and very floral in it’s mouthfeel, less spicey than La Chouffe and not as effervescent as a Duvel. I think the honey does the beer no favours at all, in fact it sweetens it too much in my eyes.

Bottled, 330ml from Hopduvel Warehouse, Ghent. Yellow gold with lots of sediment lumps, white gushy head. Quite tart and yeasty initially and then comes a thick, glutinous honey flavour. The honey does taste fresh rather than caramalised as many beers are, but it is heavy. Not much more can be tasted after that. Not really my type of beer.

Not bad, although I prefer the Asturian version: L’Esbardu. I recommend to try the mentioned one, it’s a slight improve IMO.

Bottle [11.2oz] shared with garthicus & HogTownHarry -- c/o HogTownHarry. Dec. 13, 2011. Pours a murky honey-copper with millions of tiny sediments and a spare diminishing fizzy off-white head. Aroma of honey and cloves first followed by alcohol, yeast and fruit (banana and more). Somewhat watery flavour of honey, yeast, spices and some fruit. Short finish. Average bodied. A fine but mediocre beer.
