kujo9 (1044), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Mar 20, 2003 Updated: Jan 27, 2004 Slightly hazy deep amber liquid with a lasting, tiny bubbled off white head. Floral and fruity(blueberries) at first w/ some slight plum. Malty, bready yeast, faint clove, lemon peel citrus and hints of ginger aromas in the finish of the nose; very nice complexity; Alcohol hidden from the aroma for 9%. Very well balanced, finishes on the malty sweet side, but just slightly. Malty, plums, and lemon citrus flavor seem to come through first then a slight alcohol flavor after, but very well hidden. It also has a little leathery flavor in the finish and aftertaste as well as a slight bitterness that compliments the malt very well. Medium full body and well carbonated with a warming alcohol mouthfeel, very smooth and clean. No astringency or prickly carbonation. Overall a very well made beer. I like this beer! I really, really do! Very smooth and easy to drink. Bad combo for a high ABV beer though. The only minor drawback is that the nose is more complex than the palate. I was expecting more flavors since the nose was so complex, but I still like it.
PilsnerPeter (1379), Flushing, New York, USA Aug 11, 2008 Bottle: Pours a hazy deep copper/orange with a nice, creamy, dense light tan head that lasts. Has a unique aroma. Very fruity and spicy simultaneously. It’s very hard to describe. Maybe some notes of strawberry? and toffee? with elegant soft spices as well. Almost like fruit roll-ups. The body is creamy and full feeling. The flavor is unique as well. Has an herbal fruitiness. Notes of strawberry, green raisin?, vinous characteristics, red grapes, grainy herbs, and late subtle toffee remains in the palate. This is unique, complex, interesting, and just an enjoyable beer experience. Beerman6686 (654), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 1, 2008 Poured a nice cloudy amber color with a big fluffy white head. Aroma was of spices, fruit, particularly pineapple, and some hops to boot. Flavor is very unique for the style, a nice lemon/pineapple zest mixes very well with the extreme belgian sweetness. YUM! nhorween (502), New York, New York, USA Jul 3, 2008 Bottle. Ruddy reddish-brown pour with a dense yellow-white head. Alcohol in the aroma, peaches, stone fruit, lemon. Slightly sour. Flavor is a little sour and funky, bitterness comes in front of the malt, which is interesting. Unbalanced and slightly rocky finish - astringent, dry, and chalky. There’s merit here, but I’ll need to have it again to make sure. ajm (304), USA Jun 30, 2008 This one stole a few points in the appearance and flavor categories. The color has a merry pink (very slight) hue which I’ve never seen before. The flavor is exceptionally enigmatic: quince, wheat, roasted walnut, toasted malt to balance. Very unusual, well-hidden alcohol. marchcow (482), Coralville, Iowa, USA Jun 23, 2008 Sweet and malty aromas and flavors. Rich. Will need to re-rate again later with more detail.
