4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 oh6gdx (16098) - Vasa, - JUL 30, 2008
Bottle (from Cracked Kettle). Deep reddish brown colour with huge beige foamy head. Aroma is at first very much licorice, then turns into spices and a lot of citrus fruits. Flavour is quite much licorice along with spices. Not that much fruityness in the flavour. Some mildly burning alcohol in the aftertaste, otherwise alcohol is very well hidden. Superb.

The aroma consists of caramel malt, dark fruit and a bit of yeast. Full-bodied with a sweet malty character with notes of raisins and yeast. The finish is syrupy sweet with a fruity and malty aftertaste. Decent overall.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 fiulijn (10440) - Como, ITALY - APR 1, 2012
Bottle from Bier Tempel, Brussels Hazy brown color; large head with short retention. The aroma is mild, with malt, caramel, yeast, vegetables. The body is thinner than expected; there is caramel flavor, a touch of chocolate, but also some liquorice, vegetables, spices (anise and cinnamon), herbs; ordinary bitterness, and some alcohol warmth in the end. Nothing special.

0.33L bottle brought home from Brussels, labelled as ’’Sur-les-Bois Biére Brune’’. Ouch, a gusher! The remaining liquid pours a nice looking dark ruby, with a low coarse-bubbled beige head. Rich aroma of dark dried fruits. Caramel tones, some alcohol too, and a whiff of almonds/marzipan. Taste on the sweet side. Lots of dark dried fruits and candy-sugary malt sweetness. Also some yeast tones, and a spicy touch. A little more than medium full. Oily to sticky texture. Short, sweet and warming finish. Not outstanding, but a reliable Belgian.
