Bottle (from Cracked Kettle). Deep reddish brown colour with huge beige foamy head. Aroma is at first very much licorice, then turns into spices and a lot of citrus fruits. Flavour is quite much licorice along with spices. Not that much fruityness in the flavour. Some mildly burning alcohol in the aftertaste, otherwise alcohol is very well hidden. Superb.

Bottle from Bier Tempel, Brussels
Hazy brown color; large head with short retention. The aroma is mild, with malt, caramel, yeast, vegetables. The body is thinner than expected; there is caramel flavor, a touch of chocolate, but also some liquorice, vegetables, spices (anise and cinnamon), herbs; ordinary bitterness, and some alcohol warmth in the end. Nothing special.

Bottled, alc. 8.5% @One Pint Pub
Dark brown, a bit reddish color, small steady tan head. Spicey - strong clove nose. Very carbonated mouthfeel, licorice dominates the flavor. A bit spicey (clove), but not as much in the aroma. Slightly sticky mouthfeel.

Bottle, bought @ EG.
Muddy brown with a slight red hue. Medium, staying, frothy, yellowish head. Heavy aroma, lots of fresh prunes, liquorice root, coriander, a touch of chocolate and vanilla. Very fresh. Highish carbonation, good dry mouthfeel with some underlying creaminess. Flavour is herbal, some liqourice again, prunes, figs. Light warming and softly vinious. Coriander, vanilla again, chocolate. Very different from other brunes, but really good for it.

bhensonb (7607) - Woodland, California, USA - MAY 25, 2010
Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours dark brown with a passing beige head. The aroma suggests something towards wintergreen - that’s the best I can do with it. Med body/mild carb. Flavor is rather chalky chocolate lying under something medicinal. It’s wildly different beer. Great label.

JorisPPattyn (6748) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - MAR 17, 2005
Yellow dense head over dark, opaque-brown beer. Little sourish nose with drop (liquorice-gum) nose, and a bit sweet pigfat ("zoete lies"). Again sourish lactic taste on top of rather sweet dark malts. And a distinct lavender flavour. Well bodied, sticky. Not bad, nice taste. No doubt some small lactic "infection", but not in any way unpleasant.

330ml bottle 8.5% (One Pint, Helsinki, Belgian Beers Weeks 2007). Apple and honey nose, full malty taste. Slightly alcoholic, but not intrusively so.
