Outstanding Belgian small batch - Full flavor brune with just the right amount of sweetness and you would never know you are drinking almost 10 % alcohol.

Brown coloured. Loads of sediment in the bottom of the 75cL bottle. Lovely aroma of spices. I find cinnamon, cardamom, clove, coriander and some orange peel. The flavour is also spicy with herbal notes and herbal bitterness in the finish. Complex and pleasant.

Bottle (from Cracked Kettle). Deep reddish brown colour with huge beige foamy head. Aroma is at first very much licorice, then turns into spices and a lot of citrus fruits. Flavour is quite much licorice along with spices. Not that much fruityness in the flavour. Some mildly burning alcohol in the aftertaste, otherwise alcohol is very well hidden. Superb.

New Beer Distributors, NY 11.2oz ($3): Amber brown body with a pretty nice looking head. Delightful fruity aroma, with raspberry, a bunch of malts, and the yeast. Taste really brings out the sour raspberry elements of this beer. Somewhat sweet as well. Nice and tart. Carbonated mouthfeel is amenable to my tastes. Not overly heavy-bodied. Was a very pleasant surprise as a random buy. High alcohol covered well. I think if anything, this beer is under-rated on this site.

Bottle. Aroma very spicy, herbal, dry. In the flavor more fruits become apparent (banana, apple), as well as sweet malt, rounding out the very nice spicing. Very tasty.

Bottle. Pours a deep, cloudy brown with a small, foamy tan head. Aroma of lots of spices (pepper, clove, and lots of others I can’t recognize), water chestnut. Flavor is equally spicy upfront with a nice malty backbone. Pleasant and easy to drink. Another nice BSA from La Botteresse.

330 ml bottle at Delirium Cafe. Pours a dark brown/black with a light head. Sour to the nose with hints of dark fruit. Slightly sour initially with blackberry presence, followed by a little sweetness and full mouth feel. Interesting.
3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 thewolf (8669) - Kolding, DENMARK - AUG 22, 2010
Bottle, bought @ EG.
Muddy brown with a slight red hue. Medium, staying, frothy, yellowish head. Heavy aroma, lots of fresh prunes, liquorice root, coriander, a touch of chocolate and vanilla. Very fresh. Highish carbonation, good dry mouthfeel with some underlying creaminess. Flavour is herbal, some liqourice again, prunes, figs. Light warming and softly vinious. Coriander, vanilla again, chocolate. Very different from other brunes, but really good for it.

Murky brown pour with one finger of creamy beach sand tan head. Really interesting nose with lots of sweet and pie spices and a lot of sweet phenols and fruity esters. Lightly caramelly with some raisin. Flavor is fine, lightly cidery with green apple skins and lots of spice with some pumpkin meat/gourd flavor. Light body and low carbonation.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 sayravai (4548) - Helsinki, FINLAND - AUG 12, 2009
(Bottled) Hazy, very dark reddish brown with a smallish, firm and beige head. Caramely-malty aroma with ripe fruit (prunes mostly), and a touch of sweet licorice. Flavor is slightly homebrewish, but with licorice, caramely malt, peppery spiciness, and dried fruit coming along in a moment. Hides the alcohol reasonably well, yet some burning remains, and leaves your lips sticky. Medium body with slightly foamy, but soft carbonation. A quite pleasant and balanced strong ale. It’s sad this brewery is out of business, as this one was quite good. I’ll drink to that!
