A: Dark brown-red body, thin khaki foam, moderate lacing.. S: Strong spice notes pair well with the strong yeast presence. Pepper, caramelized sugar and roasted malts. T: More of the same from the nose. The taste is heavily spiced. Hearty malt body... booze comes through quite a bit... lingering yeast goodness M: Smooth, solid carbonation, spice and alcohol leave a slight burn O: A solid dark strong ale from a relatively unknown brewer courtesy of 12% imports.

Tasted on 6/21/11 from a 330mL bottle. Pours clear, very dark amber with a thin beige head that recedes to nothing more than a thin collar of lace. The nose is very roasty with coffee, dark chocolate, toast, prune juice, a bit of alcohol heat, and a hint of burnt bitterness. The flavor is fruitier than the nose, almost a bit tart, with chocolate and coffee underlying. The body is full, with an oily texture, average carbonation, and a long dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, and tannic finish.

Bottle. Very dark brown to near black opaque pour. Its beige head is short, thick and foamy. Aroma is roasted malt, soft spice, big yeast notes, dark fruit and soft hops. Taste is burnt caramel, roasted malt, bitter hops, dark fruit notes, peppery spice and molasses. Body is light-medium and surprisingly softer than expected. Carbonation is dense and lively. Ends with more burnt caramel, roasted malt, powdery yeast, dark fruit and spice.

11.2 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a very, very dark brown color with a medium sized brown head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet caramelly malts, nutty notes, anise and other spices, banana and faint roastiness. The taste is surprisingly tart, with tart stone fruit and cherry notes. A bit of roastiness and chocolate. Faint spices in the finish. Medium bodied. Interesting.
